Bodum Shin Bistro Insulated 34-Ounce Double-Wall Glass Coffee Press Review

Bodum Shin Bistro Insulated 34-Ounce Double-Wall Glass Coffee Press

I was searching for a drip coffee maker and just couldn't decide. I wanted a thermal pot...and then I remembered about a decade ago that I bought a Bodum coffee press and had THE BEST COFFEE I have ever tasted. I bought this and Bodum's Antigua burr coffee grinder and now enjoy consistently excellent coffee. This press makes two large mugs of coffee and keeps the coffee hot for a reasonable amount of time.
To get the most out of this press, I recommend buying whole bean coffee and grinding it as close to brewing time as possible. I put in 4 "Bodum" measures of coffee (they give you a measuring spoon) and fill with water just off the boil.
The coffee made with a press is strong, yet never bitter. It has depth and character that still amazes me. No more drip brew for me!

Bialetti 06989 2 Cup "Mukka Express" Stovetop Cappuccino Maker Review

Bialetti 06989 2 Cup Mukka Express Stovetop Cappuccino Maker

Ok, I have to admit, I live in Italy.. But I'm not italian, so I'm not very demanding when it comes to coffee..
I've used this product for a few times and I just can't say anything positive about it, except that it has a cool design...
The cappuccino has a burnt coffe taste, the foam is non-existing, it's just nasty.. and it's also very expensive.. It's been sitting in the top shelf of my kitchen for over a year now.. I have to say that I've never used it to make latte because that's just coffee with milk, I bought it because I wanted a cappuccino maker.. with a lot of foam, as the advertised..
I bought a nice traditional moka coffee maker and a cappuccino frother, and believe me, they work way better than this product..
Wouldn't recommend it to anyone.. Although I might make an exception just to get rid of it.. (sigh)

Progressive 8 Cup French Style Coffee & Tea Press Review

Progressive 8 Cup French Style Coffee and Tea Press

I have used coffee presses for years and this model is great because the carafe is all glass and plastic - no metal. I can put the carafe (minus lid, which does conatin metal) directly in the microwave. I heat the water on high power for 4 1/2 minutes, add coffee grounds, stir, wait a minute, then press. Fast, Simple, Space Saving. I take this on campouts and on vacations, too.

Nespresso C100T Essenza Single-Serve Automatic Espresso Machine Kit with Frothing Machine Review

Nespresso C100 Essenza Single-Serve Automatic Espresso Machine,Black
This makes excellent espresso, cappuccino, and lattes. I was introduced to it by a friend who has a villa in Tuscany, so it's authentic. It's a breeze to use and clean, and, with your first order of coffee pods, Nespresso gives you a wonderful chest to display all 12 kinds of espresso and lungo they have. After dinner, you present this chest to your guests and have them pick the one they want. You pop it in the machine, press a lever and at once, it starts filling the cup, crema and all. I recommend you buy the Aeroccino from Nespresso to make the cappuccinos and lattes. It, too, is a versatile, excellent machine. Both together are stylish and neat on your counter, as well as small.

Unique 6 Cup Cafetiere Review

Unique 6 Cup Cafetiere

I ordered this product thinking it would be a 6 cup cafetiere but I only get 1 1/2 cups from the cafetiere. And that is an 8 oz. cup I am talking about. What size cup are the advertisers talking about?????? Also the cafetiere leaks coffee over the counter top and down the front when pouring as the spout does not seem to be big enough. I am very disappointed in the product. The only positive thing I can say is that it keeps the coffee warm.

Unique 3 Cup Cafetiere Review

Unique 3 Cup Cafetiere
Average Reviews:

I got a more expensive coffee maker that makes just one mug (apparently Cafetiere thinks it makes 3 cups, but they would have to be espresso cups) because it keeps the coffee hot, but I am very happy with the coffee--and making one mug at a time instead of my 12-cup drip potful has reduced my coffee consumption by one or two cups a day. The Cafetiere is easy to clean--a simple rinse will do it, with soap and water in the sink once a day--but the grounds have to be soaked in water to remove. We compost, so placing a paper towel under the colander where we keep the compost before it goes into the bucket daily, makes a big difference in how many grounds go down the drain.

Review for: Cuisinart Fully Automatic Burr Grind & Brew 12 Cup Coffeemaker
First a heads-up... the product's picture shows a "black" carafe which might lead you to believe it is a thermal carafe. This is not the case, it is actually a glass carafe filled to the brim with coffee. As such, be forewarned that this product does not include a thermal carafe (I was fooled, but it's interesting to note that Amazon suggested I include "thermal carafe" when "tagging" this review.) Instead, it ships with a glass carafe and features a hot-plate that has a programmable auto shut-off.
My disappointment with the carafe aside, this product has worked marvelously (received it three weeks ago.) It houses a burr grinder as opposed to a cheap blade grinder. It cleans up very easily compared to my old "Melitta MEMB1 Mill & Brew" (less than two minutes to rinse the carafe and filter-chamber/cap; after drying it's ready to be loaded with a new filter in less than 30 seconds.) The bean-hopper has a good seal to it, although I am unsure as to whether the clear plastic used offers UV protection (I would prefer to see a shaded plastic used to protect the beans inside; but I suppose the clear plastic offers a better design-element and the functionality of being able to see the level of beans inside.) And, in terms of the most important aspect, it makes great tasting coffee! (My girlfriend still marvels daily at how good the coffee is.)
Having owned and operated a coffee shop a few years back, I thought I might emphasize the importance of buying a burr grinder vs a blade grinder (for those of you who are interested and new to the art of making gourmet coffee.) First, burr grinders do not produce nearly the level of heat that can be produced by blade grinders. Heat denatures the delicate flavors of the beans (which is also why I was disappointed by having a glass carafe that sits over a direct source of high-heat.) Second, burr grinders ensure that each particle of ground coffee is consistent in size; meaning flavor extraction can be truly optimized and achieved with consistency... The flavor of your coffee is based on the contact time between the beans' chemicals and water; varied sizes of particles means the chemicals are exposed to water for varying amounts of time, and the chemicals have varied distances to travel to escape the fibers of the bean particles. A blade grinder results in variably-variable sizes of particles... meaning variable flavors escaping the clutches of the bean fibers. If you are planning to spend the extra money to buy high-quality beans, it is important to both preserve the chemicals inside (destroyed by heat, light and oxygen) and to extract them in a reasonable manner that enables isolation of the chemicals responsible for "good" flavors.
If the science of coffee interests you, Scientific American had a great article written by Ernesto Illy in June 2002, titled "The Complexity of Coffee." At only 6 pages, it's a pretty quick read and well worth the time. Here's a link: [...]
