LaCafetiere Verona 3 Cup Coffee French Press, Black Review

(More customer reviews)I wanted to try a French Press coffee maker, mostly because I am the only one in the house who drinks coffee and I only drink two American-sized cups a day. I have a small drip machine, but the coffee it makes is kind of not bad, but not great either. I chose the LaCafetiere Verona 3-Cup press mostly because I thought it looked cute, and it was the size I wanted. A 3-cup press will make 3 4-ounce cups, or 2 6-ounce cups. I place two tablespoons of ground coffee in the press, and add twelve ounces of not quite boiling water. I stir it up with a plastic spoon, place the lid with the filter on top and let it brew for four minutes, then plunge the filter very slowly. This makes an exceptionally rich, delicious cup of coffee. In the meantime, I heat about half a cup of whole milk in a Pyrex measuring cup in the microwave, then use an Aerolatte frother to foam it up in the mug. Then I pour in the coffee. I like to top it up with a sprinkle of cinnamon, or Penzey's cake spice. It's just the best cup of coffee I ever had. The press cleans up nice, seems sturdy enough, and the filter keeps the grounds out (with some practice). The plunger is smooth and the handle of the press feels comfortable to a small hand. I look forward to many mornings of delicious coffee.

(More customer reviews)Man oh man does this stuff work! We have stainless steel thermal coffee pots at the office that get heavy use. The "strong" pot was so dirty it looked like a layer of tar inside. Stiff brushes and anything else would not touch it. We depended on hot water to sterilize. Three or four squirts and a soak in just under boiling water (just ran the coffee machine with no coffee), let it sit, and wow, the water poured out black and the pot was almost totally clean. One more time and it was shining. I am totally impressed!!!!

It tends to have problems quite often that require having Miele visit. If you decide to buy this, get the extended warranty. That's not very expensive, but then again this unit costs more than $2500. And keep your inexpensive drip coffee or inexpensive small espresso maker plugged in for the times that this unit needs repair. After Miele telephone support agrees that its not user-fixable, they tell you that the on-site service guys will call. So it can be several days before you have the unit working again.
Extremely unforgiving of user errors and it's not easily user-fixable even with the help of Miele telephone support.
Can be difficult to clean: there's a honeycombed insert into the drip tray that creates hard to clean crevices. A bad idea given that coffee is oily and sticky.
When the brew unit goes wrong, as it has couple times for me, I wish Miele would ship me a replacement unit and then have me ship the problem brew unit back.

Bodum Latte Battery Operated Milk Frother and Light Mixer with Plastic Beaker, 0.2 L, 6-Ounce Review

(More customer reviews)If you want frothy milk, this little gadget does (sort of) work. However, unlike other frothers I've used, there is not a switch to turn the frother on. Instead, there is a button that must be firmly depressed the entire time you want to run it. A button requiring lighter pressure would have been easier to use if no switch was available.
Also, not sure if I got the final version or not, but on mine the beaker is not glass as advertised, but plastic, with a "7" inside the recycle triangle on the bottom. This is not good with warm milk.
If you are looking for a serious frother, buy the Nespresso 3192US Aeroccino Plus instead. I've used it for 3 years and it keeps on ticking making perfect hot or cold frothed (or just hot not-frothed) milk in a minute flat (or less). It also works well with 2% and whole milk. If you don't want to spend that much, just use your blender or get a little battery operated whisk (they run a couple bucks at any discount store) and remember to use skim or lowfat milk for the best froth when using one of these options. I would have to recommend passing on this flashy little guy.

Jura 67083 Cool Control Milk Cooler Review

(More customer reviews)A colleague had ordered this and we both have nearly identical Jura automatic espresso machines. We both work from home, so I wanted something that would make my machine a little more automated.
I've purchased wine coolers and other machines which use the same type of induction technology, and I've been 'burned' by them all - breaking down early, not keeping the right temperature, etc.
I've had this device for six months now and I'm still just as pleased with it as the day I unboxed it. Milk is truly kept cold consistently and it's incredibly quiet.
Cons: If you're a Skim milk drinker, and you wait a couple days before using it, I've noticed that the milk can sometimes freeze up or develop ice crystals. I've been able to mitigate this by filling the outer tank with barely just enough water for it to reach the brim when the container is inside of it.
Also, the tube can be a hassle to clean. Sometimes the suction power pulls milk through and lets it sit there in the tube. You have to be conscientious to clean it thoroughly after each use or each day.

The Black and Decker is larger but fits well under the cabinet. So far it has proved to be very effecient. I haven't tried the bag opener yet but all in all it is a good product.

Gevalia Coffee & Tea Pod Brewer, Black Review

(More customer reviews)Bought one of these from Woot and gave it as a Christmas gift. Spent about 2 hours trying things, reading support stuff on the internet, trying new things, and finally giving up. First, the Gevalia Coffee Pod Brewer wouldn't prime as the instructions said. Hints from other buyers said it needed to be reprimed 15-20 times before it actually started to pump water. Once that got going, it took about 25 cups worth before it would output clean, clear water. It seems that the culprit responsible for both problems is too much grease in the tubes during assembly. I really hope it's a food-grade grease or oil. As we were starting to get clear water out of the machine, it decided to quit metering the water. It doesn't matter which setting is chosen, the 6, 8, or 12-oz size, the machine will run through the entire reservoir of water and try to keep going. While furiously pumping water it seems the pump itself moves more water than the rest of the machine can handle as water leaks from base of the machine and runs all over the counter and onto the floor. What's most surprising to me about this is that other buyers describe the exact same issues with the Gevalia Coffee Pod machines they bought. I'd think it has got to be a crazy isolated incident with all the problems in one unit, but no! Lots of buyers on the Woot forums have these issues. We've boxed this machine up and have ordered a Senseo machine. I sincerely hope it's a better product, and I hope I can get a refund on the Gevalia.

(More customer reviews)I researched many different brands of French press coffee makers & decided on this one for two reasons: 1) the double glass insulation & 2) the flavor lock system. The double glass insulation keeps coffee warmer longer than a single glass maker. Also, the steel frame helps prevent glass breakage. Although most French press makers are made of break resistant glass, several reviews I read on many different sites indicated glass breakage was a common issue. The flavor lock system appears to be available only with the BonJour brand. When you're done making the coffee you simply twist the knob on the top, which stops the brewing process. This means the last cup tastes as good as the first cup. Coffee from a French press is much better than from a drip coffee maker. French press coffee is smooth & not bitter. Although this French press is marketed as an "8 cup" maker, that is based on a European measurement using 4 ounce cups. This press is 32 ounces. We have been using this French press everyday for the last month, sometimes twice a day, & we are very pleased with it.

The clock could be back-lit for ease of programing and the condensate that flows off the lid, when you open to empty the basket, is a small challenge. Neither is enough to NOT use this product. Use one of the other 4 clocks in the kitchen and keep a paper towel handy...challenges solved..Enjoy a steaming cup of coffee ! NespressoC100 PianoBlack/Aerocc Review

(More customer reviews)The Nespresso system is about as simple as coffee making gets - you turn on the device until it heats up (about 30 seconds), put the pod into the holder, press GO and in 20 seconds or so you have the perfect espresso shot. There are variety of pod blends available, and the machine is capable of producing a shot so smooth it would rival any professional coffee house.
My own real criticism is the price - this machine is expensive for something that essential boils and pumps water. But it is elegantly designed and has a small footprint and is guaranteed to become a conversation piece in your home or workplace. The second problem is that the pods themselves are expensive and can only be ordered directly from Nespresso. It's easy to create a $100-a-month coffee habit that's hard to justify in this economy, so I went back to my Mr Coffee maker after 3 months of Nespresso addiction.
But if you're in the market for pod-based espresso, I'd recommend this machine.
