Black & Decker CBM210 Stainless Steel Burr Coffee Mill/Grinder Review

Black and Decker CBM210 Stainless Steel Burr Coffee Mill/Grinder
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Paid $19 at Target and was dismayed at the random grind it produced. Realized it was a good design, just poorly executed. Here is how to fix it:
1. Pop out the top grinding head as per the cleaning instructions.
2. Carefully unscrew the two screws securing the grinding head to the plastic insert.
3. Trace the circular grinding head on a business card.
4. Cut this out to make a gasket that will fit between the grinding plate and the plastic insert.
5. Re-assemble and insert into the hopper as per the cleaning instructions.
Now it will grind your coffee beans consistently to whatever degree you want.
I'd give it 5 stars for value, but it should have been made right in the first place!

With its unique extraction system designed specifically for coffee-filled capsules, this single-serve automatic espresso machine prepares perfect espresso every time. The unit perforates the hermetically sealed capsule and soaks all the ground coffee to optimally filter the coffee, while its high-pressure 19-bar pump extracts all the aromas and gives body to the espresso, ensuring a smooth crema--the delicious creamy layer on top. In addition, the machine's ThermoBlock heating system heats water to 187 degrees and 196 degrees during extraction and empties the remaining water after each use to ensure fresh water every time. Used capsules eject automatically into the used-capsule collection container upon lifting the handle. Other highlights include automatic control of the amount of coffee in the cup, a backlit control button, electronic temperature regulation, and a removable 34-ounce water container. The espresso machine only uses capsules, not any other ground espresso, but Nespresso provides a range of premium coffee blends, including decaffeinated. An assortment of 12 capsules comes included. Compactly designed in sleek, modern housing, the automatic espresso machine measures 10 by 6-2/5 by 11-1/2 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Lavazza Italian "Cafe Espresso" Ground Espresso (6 x 8.0 oz cans) Review

Lavazza Italian Cafe Espresso Ground Espresso (6 x 8.0 oz cans)
Average Reviews:

I purchased a smaller quantity of this espresso at a local retailer, and have been prepariing it in a regular coffee maker. To my astonishment and delight, there's not a hint of bitterness to this highly caffeinated libation. Make no mistake, this is a STRONG cup of joe, but very pleasing to the palate and well worth the price.
For those of you who need the morning perk but like it sweet, try this:
8 oz brewed Lavazza
4 oz very warm milk
2 tablespoons Ghirardelli White Chocolate Mocha
Blend the milk and the white chocolate together FIRST, then pour and blend the mixture into the coffee. This has salvaged more than one otherwise miserable commute for me!

Twinings Green Tea, 8-Count T-Discs for Tassimo Coffeemakers (Pack of 3) Review

Twinings Green Tea, 8-Count T-Discs for Tassimo Coffeemakers (Pack of 3)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I guess I am one of the few that love this green tea. I own the Tassimo by Bosch T20 Single Serve Coffee Brewer, White and have a lot of teas and coffees stocked up. During the afternoon or at night I love to grab a green tea and while it is brewing I add SweetLeaf Liquid Stevia, Lemon Drop, 2-Ounce Bottles (Pack of 2) to the glass mug, just a few drops. I don't think the tea is bitter at all and love the flavor of it. Another thing I do my mugs are Libbey 13-Ounce Classic Coffee Mug, Box of 12, Clear and there is a little room left after the tea brews. Once the green cup light on my T20 is blinking to indicate it is ready I put the machine in manual over drive and add more water by pressing the button until the top of the mug is full. I guess with the added water and lemon stevia it is just the right flavor. I love it so much I drink several glasses a day. One of my favorite teas for the Tassimo.

Braun Tassimo TA1200 Single-Serve Hot-Beverage System Review

Braun Tassimo TA1200 Single-Serve Hot-Beverage System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this product from Target for $129 today for two reasons: 1 - I have recently developed a dependence on Starbucks Caffee Mocha - it does not have much of a coffee taste, which I like, and the shot of espresso in it helps me concentrate. I work at home and its easy to get distracted. The small size has been costing me over $3 so I need to just make it at home 2 - Though I'm not a coffee drinker, most of my friends are and I like the idea of being able to offer them a cup of coffee, cappucino or espresso (or hot chocolate) now and then.
I researched the single serve machines quite a bit and found that Tassimo is a good machine, though the coffee is not as good as if made from freshly ground beans in a french press. That's okay with me - I'm just making one serving a day of espresso and mixing in a bunch of skim milk and chocolate powder so it does not have to be the best coffee flavor. Very practical as it is quick and each cup costs around $0.50 based on the T-disc prices. Note: the milk discs use a liquid rather than a powder, and this supposedly makes a better cappucino than the machines that use powdered milk disks. I use the Gevalia Espresso, then add hot skimmed milk frothed with the handheld Aerolatte, then add two spoons of Ghiradelli hot chocolate mix. It tastes great, albeit not quite as rich as Starbucks product. A friend stopped by and I made him a cup of coffee using a Maxwell house coffee disc (Target had a coupon for a free box of them when I bought the machine) and he said the coffee was very good.
You can remove the drip cup and put a full size travel mug under it if you want, though you may get a few drips on the counter after pulling your mug away. This thing is very easy to clean - the three parts you'd want to clean are easy to pull off the machine, and could go in the dishwasher though I just rinse them with clean water right after using the machine and put them back. Also, the machine allows you some control so you can increase or decrease the amount of water, and thus the strength, using the start/stop button.
My Bed, Bath and Beyond store had a great selection of Gevalia capuccino and espresso disks, and the tea and the hot chocolate disks. Target only had Maxwell House coffee disks.
In one way the Keurig machine is superior - you can make your own coffee pods. This allows you to use any type of coffee you want, and freshly ground from beans. If you are a SERIOUS coffee drinker, you should prob get the Keurig instead so you won't be limited on coffees you can use as you are with the Tassimo product.

Ascaso DR.118 Dream 16-Bar-Pump Espresso Machine, Polished Aluminum Review

Ascaso DR.118 Dream 16-Bar-Pump Espresso Machine, Polished Aluminum
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Our little Ascaso just gave up the ghost, after less than four years of delicious daily cappuccino for my wife and me. We'll miss it. But we haven't decided how to replace it.
This machine was fully manual, which meant getting good coffee out of it was like getting a melody out of a Stradivarius. It took practice and patience. But once dialed in, ahh, the results were splendid. My wife could never get the foam just right, and never learned to give it enough time to cool down after making the foam without scalding the coffee. But I found all the right ways to make delicious espresso beverages of all types.
I liked the machine, loved the design, tolerated the price, and the adored the coffee it made, but I can't give it the highest rating. Fairly early on the foam wand started leaking, just a little. Then the seals stopped sealing well which caused un-pressed coffee/water to leak around the brew basket into the cup (a repairable problem.) Then the temperature gauge stopped working - not really a big deal. But the death nail problem was the demise of the heating element. No heat, no coffee, no steam, no nothing. And even Seattle's espresso repair shop can't locate a replacement heating element.
Will I buy another Ascaso, or try a different brand? I don't know yet. Did we get almost four years of good espresso out of a $650 (on sale at Starbucks in 2006) machine? Yep. Should we have gotten more years of service? I'd like to think so. Would my wife prefer to listen to a digital CD player (i.e. use a fully automatic machine) to learning how to play a musical instrument (like the Ascaso)? As long as I'm around to make the coffee, she doesn't care.

Chef's Choice 695 Electric French Press, Black Review

Chef's Choice 695 Electric French Press, Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have purchased (and agrily returned) four of these products. The reason I've been angry is the same as the rest of the reviewers....great product which makes great coffee but leaks! I finally removed the glass container from the unit, cleaned off the cheap silicone that they use to seal it to the heating element, and re-sealed it with a high-temp gasket maker that I purchased from a auto parts store. NO MORE LEAKING!!! If Chef's Choice would simply use a better silicone sealer, this product would fly off the shelves. I've been using my new and improved press for 6 months now with no problems.

French press or plunge pot coffeemakers have gained popularity with the recent interest in gourmet coffee and coffee products. Fans of this brewing method insist it results in a richer, less bitter, flavor than the typical electric coffeemaker. Many however were somewhat put off by the idea of pouring boiling water into a glass pot. This convenient machine boils the water right in the pot. All you do is add coffee when the water's the correct temperature and insert the plunger when brewing is done. In addition to its brewing virtues, this pot has a decidedly elegant European presence at table.

Braun FlavorSelect Patented Water Filter Review

Braun FlavorSelect Patented Water Filter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've enjoyed my Braun coffee maker, and this filter is one of the reasons. I have well water that already tastes great, but some grit gets into the tap water, and this filter takes care of that. People often say what I great cup of coffee I make, but I use perfectly ordinary coffee, just with really great water.
However... these filters are expensive and virtually impossible to find. No major retailer seems to carry them, and the Braun customer service center is only open during business hours, and does not seem to have a website that I can find... This filter system would be a lot more appealing if it were easier to buy and replace, and also cheaper.

Gaggia 35004 Carezza Espresso Machine, White Review

Gaggia 35004 Carezza Espresso Machine, White
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This machine is nothing short of a steal for someone on a budget interested in a true espresso machine. The innards of this Gaggia are identical to every one of their models from this one up until the Gaggia Baby/Classic (which adds a solenoid valve) which retails for around $450/$500. The brew group is the same commercial grade heavy hunk of brass with commercial 58mm portafilter, the aluminum boiler is the same as the Gaggia boiler found in the Classic. There is simply no comparison between this model and any non-Italian made competitor, such as Krups. A small drip tray (use an empty cup!) is a tiny price to pay for the awesome internals.
That said, one ought to realize that they cannot produce true crema-laden espresso without a grinder capable of producing an even, fine espresso grind, coupled with freshly roasted beans. This machine ought to be paired with the Gaggia MDF grinder, a Rancilio Rocky, or a Mazzer Mini. For those on a budget, you might be able to get away with a Capresso Infinity or Solis Maestro Plus --especially if you're content with milk drinks (since you'll have little leeway to tweak the espresso)-- but be very careful about other budget grinders. Gagggia's budget burr grinder (not the MDF), for example, is not up to the task. If you drink straight espresso, go with the Gaggia MDF for sure.
Be aware that the price seems to fluctuate on Amazon, but it can typically be bought for under $200 at the more famous espresso on-line places, and often here at Amazon.

Unless I am mistaken no-where can you find how much liquid is required for each descaling operation. The product instructions refer you to the coffee makers instruction manual, in my case a Gaggia, and the coffee machine instructions refer you to the descaler instruction book-this being a programmed descaling operation.
That apart, it would seem to work fine

Timothy's World Coffee, Midnight Magic, Extra Bold, 24-Count K-Cups for Keurig Brewers (Pack of 2) Review

Timothy's World Coffee, Midnight Magic, Extra Bold, 24-Count K-Cups for Keurig Brewers (Pack of 2)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My wife and I love this k-cup. We've tested all the extra bold dark roasts out there. In fact, we did blind taste tests and pitted Timothy's Midnight Magic vs. Green Mountain EB Dark Magic, Gloria Jeans EB Black Gold, Van Houtte's Eclipse EB, Green Mountain EB Espresso Blend, Green Mountain EB Sumatran Reserve, Timothy's EB Parisian Nights, Coffee People EB Organic, Coffee People EB French Roast, Tully's EB French Roast and Tully's EB Italian Roast. Yes, we honestly tested them all. Many of the other contenders are fine coffees in their own right and without direct comparison to Midnight Magic, they'd be a fine k-cup. But when compared directly with Timothy's Midnight Magic, we found we chose it every time in blind taste tests. It amazed me when my wife picked it every single time.
There is no way you'd be let down by this k-cup if you like extra bold, dark roasted coffee. It's just perfect!
A must buy for Keurig owners!

Krups KM7000 Black Grind-and-Brew 10-Cup Coffeemaker With FREE Durgol Decalcifier Review

Krups KM7000 Black Grind-and-Brew 10-Cup Coffeemaker With FREE Durgol Decalcifier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Have now had this for about three weeks. Coffee is good and the machine is attractive and convenient to use.
Previous review criticized the pouring from the carafe, which is true. The solution is to pour very slowly, which is difficult with a full pot of coffee. Another Krups we have, has the same design flaw. I also had trouble with getting the filter holder in; it is tricky and requires one to put it in place with the handle up, in the position you would carry it to the sink, and once the plastic base is in place, lowering the handle to a horizontal position, parallel to the top of the filter holder. I found that I was unable to put the filter holder into its base with the handle already down; it just wouldn't fit in my case, and I suspect, all cases.
I do have one problem/criticism, and that involves the retention of already ground coffee in the chute that leads to the dropoff from the grinder to the filter. For whatever the reason, at least one teaspoon of ground coffee is consistently left in the chute. That may be fine if you always brew the same type/brand of coffee, but if you change coffees frequently, this is a major problem, since you end up with significant admixture with the previous coffee. If anyone has had the same problem or a solution, please post. For all I know, this may a defect particular to my machine, although I doubt it.

Francis Francis 208003 X8 iperEspresso Machine, Black Review

Francis Francis 208003 X8 iperEspresso Machine, Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Illy is having a promotion of these. You can get them from Illy's website for $175 until 12/31/2009.
This machine is for people who want convenience. This machine uses pre-packaged espresso servings. If you do not want to fuss or mess that comes with grinding your own beans, you have three options:
1. Nespresso. You have to buy the machine and the capsules from Nespresso. I tried this machine and didn't really like the espresso. Not enough rich crema.
2. E.S.E Pods. Made by lots of different companies. This is an industry standard format. It's basically like an individually packaged tea bag, with a compressed puck of finely ground coffee inside. You could use this in a convensional espresso machine with the appropriate adaptor. Widely available. But the quality of your espresso will depend highly on your machine.
3. Illy's iperEspresso capsules, used by this machine, the Francis Francis X8. Not much of a selection of coffee, but what they do offer is very good. The crema is excellent. I find the machine very easy to use. The multi-color LED tells me when the machine is ready. Switches quickly between brew and steam (< 30 seconds). The frothing wand works pretty well, but it tends to over froth a bit. That's great for cappuccinos, but not so great for lattes.
PROS:
1. Extremely easy and convenient.
2. It acually makes decent drinks.
3. Seems to be good quality construction.
4. Never really runs out of steam. The pump inject small amounts of water into the boiler while steaming.
5. Switches between steam and brew (and vice versa) in under 30 seconds.
6. Heats up very quickly (under 30 seconds).CONS:
1. This is not for espresso connoisseurs. The espresso is acceptable, but not in the same league as a Rancillio or Gaggia. My other machine is a Silvia. I bought the X8 because I wanted a second machine for the office, where grinding beans and making a mess is not an option.
2. The Illy capsules are not individually wrapped. Once you open the tin (14 capsules), the shelf life is 14 days.
3. The construction quality is excellent, keeping in mind the whole thing is plastic. Again, not in the same league as something 100% stainless steel or polished chrome.
4. The steam power is very weak, however due the sophisticated design of the steam wand, it does a good job creating froth because it mixes lots of air into the milk. Nonetheless, you don't really have the power or flexibility that you'd find on a high-end machine.
5. It's mainly designed for single shot drinks. A tripple shot "venti" cappuccino will be rather tough to make with this machine (and expensive). Steaming a large enough portion of milk will be a slow process. Also, it would take you nearly two minutes to brew three capsules. By then, both your crema from the first shot and froth in the sitting milk would have started to collapse and your end result will not be great.
Overall, I love this machine.

Delonghi Magnifica Digital Espresso Machine - open box Review

Delonghi Magnifica Digital Espresso Machine - open box

(More customer reviews)
Well the machine was good until the warranty ran out. It started leaking water a little at a time, then the water stopped flowing into my cup and just ran out from under the machine. I am pretty handy so I thought I would take the back off and see if it could be fixed. I found that the heating element that the water flows through has a small hole in it. No problem I will just order one and be done with it. NOT gonna happen. It appears that some genius at Delonghi made the decision not to let customers that spend over $1000 dollars on a $200 machine buy internal parts, of course they want to rape me on repair charges plus the shipping both ways. The repair takes all of maybe 15 minutes if I had the part. If anyone knows where I can order a heating element please let me know. I will NEVER buy another Delonghi product!!!
