Cleans the machine very well, but could be cheaper... But, at the same time, the tablets do last for a long time so I can't complain. Works great for our Jura Impressa F9!

Espressione 1329 Cafe Roma Deluxe Espresso Machine with Built-in Grinder, Anthracite Grey Review

Espressione 1329 Cafe Roma Deluxe Espresso Machine with Built-in Grinder, Anthracite Grey
Average Reviews:

I have purposely waited for more than 3 months since my purchase to write a review, as I wanted to make sure the satisfaction lasted. I chose this model for the features, and for the appearance of being more substantially made than some similarly priced competitor models. It was easy to set up and get started. I do agree that the directions could be more helpful in the "how-to" department for novice espresso makers like me. I put this in my office for the purpose of replacing my daily mid-afternoon Starbucks latte purchase habit. After some experimentation with various beans, tamping pressure, and degrees of grinding, I was able to produce a product that easily rivals what I had been buying over the counter....And for probably .45 - .50 per cup! I have found that the temperature varies somewhat from one cup to another, probably depending on my performance as a barista. Since there is not a cup warmer included, I learned to microwave a cup of water in my latte cup while I'm grinding and frothing. I like my coffee very hot, so on the occasion that drink is still not hot enough, I simply stick the finished product into the microwave for 30 seconds (although I'm sure this probably horrifies espresso purists). All in all, a very good machine for the money. Everything continues to work as designed, and clean-up is very simple.

Love the machine... Great coffee.... I had some problems with the milk disk not emptying out completely, but if you leave the disc in for a few extra seconds after the orange light comes on, it works out fine... Since this was sold by Amazon, the shipping and packing part was exceptional.

Gaggia New Baby Espresso Machines Review

Gaggia New Baby Espresso Machines
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Making my own espressos for about fifteen years. This is my second machine. Using it for close to six years. My model is the same with a slightly different exterior. Buttons in the same space with the knob on top. Also have the Silvia/Rocky Grinder. Each cost close to $350.
If you want to foam milk for most of your espressos this machine will be frustrating because the heater cannot keep up. Although I prefer espresso without milk when I want Lattes I simply microwave to heat and whip with Aerolatte 5 Milk Frother ($16). Friends this whips milk to "wet paint" thickness in seconds. I would never pay hundreds extra for a machine that makes lots of steam for frothing. If I owned one anyway I would still use the Aerolatte. Can you say "ten seconds"? Only thing you have to be careful of is WHIPPING THE MILK TOO MUCH, too thick, and it happens so fast it take practice not too.
Back to the coffee. Gaggia Baby has always worked well for me. Main skill is getting the grind correct. Not because of the machine because of the bean. That is why I paid as much for the Rocky grinder as the Gaggia espresso machine. Fresh beans can be ground larger first few days than a week after you open the package. Freshness is lost to volatility........it evaporates. Too much work for me but that is why roasting your own is best flavor.
The Gaggia brews just fine but no better than the bean you use. Warm up is fast due to the heater inbedded in the walls of the aluminum tank. Yes aluminum. This is why the machine heats up so fast for brewing. Many machines tanks are stainless. Our local water is very high quality and easy on aluminum. Always rinse and back-flush after brewing. Only takes seconds.Use Cleancaf cleaner and descaler once or twice a month depending on how much you brew. Without this espresso will become more bitter. Guess how I know ;D ?
Last but far from least: About a year ago I tried coffee pods. This machine has a smaller insert for pods many do not. Cost a little more per cup but brewing is much easier including clean up. Flavor is outstanding due to freshness. Brewing times vary by brand. Many beans are not available in pods so I still make lots from scratch. For the money this is a good machine. Got an extra $150? Then get the Gaggia Classic but they are the same inside. At $150 steps I would choose the Gaggia Baby.........Gaggia Classic........Rancilio/Silvia ($650). They all make good espresso IMHO.

Gaggia 11400 Achille Lever-Operated Espresso Machine Review

Gaggia 11400 Achille Lever-Operated Espresso Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I received this beautiful espresso machine in June. It is a stunning work of functional art. Out of the box it had two problems: a leak in the boiler water level gauge and the steam valve would not turn off completely. I called the number given for service and reached Importika, the importer of the machine. The people I dealt with were not timely in responses to phone calls and e-mails. I had to be persistent beyond reasonableness to receive the necessary approval to send it in for service. I was told repeatedly that they would notify me when the part arrived from Italy. They never did that. I had to contact them. Then I had to pay $50 for shipping. The only service center that had the part was on the east coast, I live on the west coast. The west coast service center did not have the part. That repair took 3 1/2 weeks from the time it left my door until it returned. In early December the machine started dripping uncontrollably from the showerhead. Again, I had to deal with the same people at Importika. Again, I had to be the one to continually contact them even though I was told several times that they would contact me. They never did. Finally, they told me it had to be sent in for repairs. Since this was the second time it was being sent in for repair in 6 months, I made two requests of them. First, I asked that they send to me a prepaid shipping label, and secondly, that they replace the machine with a new one. These requests, in my experience, are not unreasonable, especially given the over $1,000 price tag. That was at the end of December. It is now Feb. 7 and they have not responded. For the cost of this machine, I expect exceptional service if it is needed. I have NOT received exceptional service. I would not even call it acceptable. The machine has stopped dripping in the mean time and I'm hoping that it has miraculously cured itself.
The machine makes wonderful espresso. I've made espresso for years with other Gaggia machines and it took weeks of experimenting to get the correct combination of grind fineness and tamping pressure. Once I had it figured out, it makes the best espresso I've had from a home brew machine. I use Illy Caffe beans. Using it will build your biceps.
In summary, it's a fantastic machine with a couple of realiability issues and absolutely awful customer service for after the purchase repairs. Cross your fingers that you won't need to do so.

Saeco Incanto Deluxe Automatic Espresso Machine, Stanless Steel Review

Saeco Incanto Deluxe Automatic Espresso Machine, Stanless Steel
Average Reviews:

I got this thing 4 days ago when Costco had it on sale. Awesome coffee, whether you just want an Espresso, Latte, Cappucino, or a regular coffee. Easy to use. Not too noisy when grinding, tons of options to program. So, all in all, seems like a great machine. But...I have to say I already had to use their manual pump twice to "ventilate" the system (charging the circuit with water). It is supposed to do this once when installing, and then after a long time of not being in use. Well, I already had to do it twice within 4 days. Worse, it did not do it automatically, so I had to use this 20 cent hand pump that does not properly fit. It's ridiculous, this is a $1,200 machine. I really love the coffee, so I want to believe in it, but if this happens a few more times, I will check with customer service, and if this does not stop I will send it back and get a manual 15 bar one without so much electronic. Too bad though, coffee is really great.

Espressione CA4865 Supremma Super-Automatic Coffee/Beverage Center Review

Espressione CA4865 Supremma Super-Automatic Coffee/Beverage Center
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We've used this machine at our home overseas in 220-240V version for over four years and have found it to be flawless in performance, effortless in programming and use, so uncomplicated to use that we had this in a orthodontists office where adults and children alike used the machine. Purchased the 110-120V version and am delighted with performance (seems to be some improvements over orignal model we own) Creates an excellent crema at the perfect temperature when pulling a shot(s) of espresso or an americano. Preinfusion feature insures great results. Plenty of powerful, dry steam for frothing milk. A breeze to use the cappucinador by placing line into milk jug or container, frothing milk directly into the cup. Touch screen panel gives clear and straightfoward commands. Audible bell tone advises if there is an item not in place, not enough water or dump bin needs to be cleaned. Generally I make between 18-22 coffees before needing to remove and clean the dump bin. Pleasant cobalt blue power switch and cobalt blue light that illuminates the large water tank. Grinder adjustment is very easy. customer service taught me a trick where you can "increase the grind time" thus receiving optimum results from a hard or heavily roasted coffee bean. This gave us the capability of achieving a sold coffee cake or puck after each coffee. We owned another brand here in america and it was difficult to remove the brewing group (a key was required). This one extremely easy to remove for cleaning with one turn of a clip and one knob that you unscrew. All in all we view this machine as outstanding and our thrilled that we can recommend our friends to buy it on Amazon. Although the water reservoir and bean container is larger than a unit that we used from Switzerland, I'm going to contact the maker to see if it's possible to get even a larger water reservoir and a larger bean container.

Combining an ultra-sleek design with exceptionally practical, user-friendly functionality, this super-automatic coffee/beverage center makes it easy to enjoy soothing, cafe-style coffee drinks, whether it's with a friend who stops by for a visit or with co-workers to get through a long day of business meetings. The 1150-watt machine delivers 18 bars of pump pressure and features a pre-infusion Coffee Essence System (CES), which injects water evenly into the coffee tablet to fully extract and maximize the aroma and flavor of coffee for delicious espressos, cappuccinos, lattes, and more. Choose from eight programmable options and control the temperature with a simple touch to its interactive LCD display.
The unit works with either ground coffee or whole coffee beans (8-4/5-ounce coffee-bean capacity), and its built-in coffee grinder offers adjustable coarseness settings and grinding plates made of ceramic so it won't burn the coffee even at high speeds, all of which helps to ensure the freshest results. The super-automatic coffee maker's professional brewing unit replaces all the manual functions of a traditional espresso machine. Even more, it produces a 3 mm thick golden layer of cream on top--the sign of an excellent cup of espresso coffee. An audible beep not only indicates when the coffee is ready to enjoy, but it also alerts users to situations that require attention, like when the machine requires more water in the tank, when the coffee dregs container needs to be emptied, or when the side door needs to be closed if accidentally left open.
Other highlights include a large 1-4/5-liter removable water tank with a visible water level and a blue cobalt light, a cup holder and warming tray, hot water and steam functions, and a Maxi Cappuccino milk-frothing device, as well as an anti-drip valve with a self primer, a high-pressure safety valve with cap, adjustable automatic shut-off, a removable drip tray, and self-cleaning and decalcification functions. A bonus Cappucinador for making foolproof cappuccinos and lattes comes included, as well as an instructional DVD for getting started. The CUL-certified super-automatic coffee/beverage center measures 15-8/9 by 12-2/3 by 15 inches and carries a two-year limited warranty with a 10-year limited warranty on the brewing group.

Bodum Shin Bistro 4-Ounce Milk Frother Review

Bodum Shin Bistro 4-Ounce Milk Frother
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have had my Bodum frother for about three years (older model than this one, black plastic top) and have had no problems with it other than my husband hitting the top rim with something and chipping the glass. I smoothed it out with an emery board nail file and it is fine, but that prompted me to look on Amazon to see if they still sold them so that I could order a backup but they are a little pricey now; I think I paid only about $10 for mine.

Many people have criticized this product because the glass broke and it seems many people are using metal spoons with it. To me it is common sense when dealing with a thin glass product such as this to use a plastic utensil if you need one. One of those long handled plastic spoons like you get at an ice cream shop work well. I usually just pour my froth out and wait a few seconds with a couple of little shakes which gets most of it out.
I always heat the milk (or half & half which I use most of the time) in the microwave first right in the beaker, then do the pumping and have had no problems doing it that way. I actually think heated milk froths better and creates a finer froth. Many people are under the false impression that heated milk won't froth but I think this is because most of the instructions on frothing are for espresso machines where it is always suggested to use very cold milk before steaming and frothing. But this is because of the heating factor with the hot steam. You have to use cold milk or you won't have enough time to froth before the milk reaches the ideal temperature. If you used preheated milk it would quickly overheat using hot steam to froth. So I think because of this many people assume that you need cold milk for any kind of frothing.
My Bodum has held up extremely well over the years that I have used it but I am careful with it and never put it in the dishwasher. I always immediately rinse both the wand and beaker, fill with a little warm water and detergent, then pump a few times to disperse the detergent. I then rinse well and air dry. I rarely take it apart to clean. Once in awhile I use a very soft brush to clean the screen.
This little frother is both convenient and stress free, no worrying about timing, or temperature, as with the espresso machine wands. You just pump for as long as you want until you're happy with the volume of your froth, which you can easily see because of the clear glass.
Laura

Create a smooth and consistent milk foam without electricity. Bodum's Shin Bistro 5-Ounce Milk Frother is easy to use and quickly froths milk. Simply add cold non-fat milk to the fill line before setting the lid in place. Then pull and push the plunger until milk turns to a frothy foam. The volume of milk froth will approximately double. Allow the froth to sit for a minute and thicken. To heat the froth, remove the lid/plunger unit and put the carafe with frothed milk in the microwave on high for 20 seconds. Use a spoon to scoop out the frothy foam and top off favorite coffee drinks. Able to hold up to 5 ounces, the beaker is made of durable, heat-resistant borosilicate glass. All parts are dishwasher safe.

I am very picky about my coffee. I only like espressos I get at restaurants and coffee shops about half the time. If you use a standard meat thermometer to ensure the water is between 175 and 185 degrees F the result is truly outstanding. It makes great espresso as well as coffee. You can easily control the acidity by using hotter water. I have owned espresso machines ranging from $100 to $300 and this little unit beats them hands down. Fantastic product!

Krups XP7225 Compact Fully Automatic Espresso Machine Review

Krups XP7225 Compact Fully Automatic Espresso Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We bought this machine from Williams-Sonoma and liked it so much that we stuck with the coffee through four separate units, each of which failed within three weeks for a different reason. My wife and I each drink 2-3 shots of espresso per day, for a total of 6-8 cycles of the machine (including self rinsing): this is within their warranty rate of 10 cycles per day. We use non-greasy beans and reverse-osmosis water, both of which are recommended by the manufacturer. At first I thought we just got unlucky -- every factory makes a few lemons -- but after four machines and four independent failure modes I'm convinced they're just poorly built.
For coffee : 4-5 stars. When they work, these machines are just adjustable enough for us - you can adjust the grind, the water temperature, and the water volume independently to "sight in" your ideal shot. For reliability: -4 stars. I would give this product just a single star, but the titanium fronted one comes with a terrific milk-frothing assembly that makes great, silky foam every time. That alone is worth a second star.
Machine #1: worked for three weeks, then mysteriously failed with an error code "DE" on the screen. Krups support was baffled.
Machine #2: worked for 1.5 weeks, then the burr grinder broke - motor would turn but wouldn't grind coffee.
Machine #3: DOA - on initial plug-in, entered an infinite loop of "calibrating machine" cycles. (I think an internal sensor was jammed).
Machine #4: worked for 3 weeks, then mysteriously started spewing acrid, electrical-insulator smoke.
I suggest a Delonghi Magnifica - they can be found for under $1k and are actually designed to be maintainable - or a semi-auto with built-in burr grinder (Breville makes one).

Brew cafe-quality coffee drinks right at home with this easy-to-use fully automatic espresso machine. Simply add water and espresso beans, select the type of beverage and amount desired, and press the button--it takes care of the rest. The appliance grinds, brews, and tamps, then dispenses used grounds into a collection container. An oversized digital display and intuitive controls make it effortless to scroll through the on-screen menu and to follow detailed instructions for everything from set-up to brewing perfect espresso. In addition, the unit's commercial-quality built-in conical burr grinder holds up to 28 ounces of whole beans and comes calibrated to three optimal grind levels. Use the pre-ground bypass doser for pre-ground decaffeinated or flavored coffee--a handy feature when entertaining.
For added convenience, the espresso machine's innovative design combines the thermoblock brewing system and hydraulic jack into a single piece, which means an overall smaller build that takes up less space on the countertop. In fact, it's 30- to 50-percent smaller than most fully automatics available. The completely redesigned thermoblock comes cast in aluminum with stainless-steel tubing for precise control of the water and temperature and optimal heat transfer while reducing scaling and build-up of mineral deposits. Other highlights include a 64-ounce water tank, hot water on demand, and a steam function for cappuccinos and lattes. The 1450-watt espresso machine measures 12-1/2 by 9-1/2 by 14-1/4 inches and carries a one-year warranty.

Gaggia Accademia Espresso Machine Review

Gaggia Accademia Espresso Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just purchased this machine from Amazon and have been incredibly impressed with the build quality, features, and quality of the coffee produced. You can't beat this machine in terms of the product design, multitudes of modes of operation, and elimination of cleaning chores often associated with fully automatic home machines.
Unboxing the product is your first clue to the level of detail the manufacturer paid to the product experience. As is custom with Gaggia products, this machine was designed and built at the Milan factory -- something that will not escape you from the early moments of opening the box. Once the shipping box is opened, you simply remove the outer box to reveal the inside box, which has two convenient long handles to make it easy for you to lift the machine out of the shipping box. Inside, the sealed inner box contains your unit, with prominent serial number markings on the inner box and the "Made in Milan, Italy" (naturally in Italian) stamped proudly.
You'll be surprised with the highly durable construction, in particular, the stainless steel finish which seems to be impervious to finger prints in my usage so far -- and the high quality hinges that reveal the inner workings of the machine: the brew group, drip tray, and grounds drawer. One unique feature of this machine is that the brew group is fully removable for easy maintenance and cleaning. Given that o-rings over time will break down and are a common service issue on home machines from other manufacturers, the ability to self maintain in your kitchen without needing to pull the machine out or remove it to another location is a plus. Maintenance kits for the o-rings can be found for as little as $9.99.
The manuals are well written and the menu system is intuitive and easy to use. Brew strength can be varied with a simple dial on the front of the machine, and individual settings for each beverage, including coffee quantity, volume, temperature, and milk froth settings, if applicable, can be specified. There's also a coffee chute for pre-ground coffee should you chose to use some for a particular beverage instead of the beans. This gets to the main strength of this machine: it's completely configurable. Many people gravitate to manual machines due to the lack of control over the Espresso pull; this machine not only lets you program it, you can change it easily before every cup without needing to descend into tons of on-screen menus.
The milk carafe is a fabulous feature -- and it's zero mess. You simply pop it in, move the arm over the cup, and select the beverage you want. When you're done making milk beverages, you return the arm to the middle position which activates a steam rinse feature that flushes the milk circuit with steam for cleanliness. Simply remove the carafe to the fridge for safe keeping until your next cleaning!
Another feature of the adjustable brew center is that it can be removed for exceptionally tall cups. Nice for those tall cups in the morning on the way to work!
Since energy consumption is on everybody's mind these days, the unit features a double boiler (one for the brew group, and one for the milk circuit.) There's an optional ECO mode which will automatically power down the milk circuit when not in use -- simply call-up the machine's settings to activate the feature. Furthermore, the unit features an adjustable auto-standby feature which will put the unit into standby mode drawing less than a watt of power.
I couldn't be happier with my unit. The coffee taste, strength, and temperature are perfect. The adjustments are virtually unlimited and you can achieve precisely the results you want consistently. A great appliance for any coffee lover's kitchen!

I've owned semi automatic machines in the past and let me tell you, this machine certainly brews a better espresso than any of those machines ever did! Just to prove a point to my husband, I brewed him an espresso at home last night, then took him to our favorite cafe this morning and bought him one, and then I heard those beautiful words, "You were right." Music to my ears! So if you're looking for a tasty espresso, that requires no effort or thought what-so-ever, give this machine a whirl and you won't be sorry!

With over 65 years in the industry, you won't find a better quality espresso brewed from a home espresso machine. Grind, dose and brew your espresso, all at the touch of a button. Switch to steam by turning the knob and let the Milk Island, a separate frothing attachment, create the perfect foam for those delicious cappuccinos. Or froth with the pannarello wand, used in the traditional way with a frothing pitcher; both options are hands off!Gaggia has gone above and beyond with the LED touch screen display, stainless steel control panel, rapid steam boiler, and the two frothers, creating a very simple, consistent and reliable machine to operate. The touch screen offers an abundance of programmable options. The Beverage Settings allow you to set the strength, intensity, temperature and volume for your espresso, coffee, and tall coffee. The Time/Date Settings allow you to adjust stand-by mode and also set the machine to turn on and off up to 3 times a day, 7 days a week. For example, Monday -- 6am, 12pm, 6pm, Friday -- 6am, 1pm, 9pm and Saturday -- 9am, 6pm, 10pm. Machine Settings allow you to set the language, adjust the cup warmer, and set the water settings including rinse mode, water filter and water hardness. Maintenance Settings include cleaning and descale cycles and lock display, which allows you to clean the menu screen without accidentally selecting a beverage. Lastly, Special Settings include factory settings, which allow you to reset the machine to the original manufacturer settings. All super automatic machines have a centralized brew group where the brewing process takes place. One of the many key advantages to the Gaggia machines is the removable brew group, which creates easy maintenance. After some extensive field and comparison testing against other top brands, plus having Baristas/Connoisseurs sample its final product, we're happy to report the Gaggia Platinum's have come out on top, each and every time.

Senseo 7810 Single-Serve Gourmet Coffee Machine, Black Review

I received the Senseo coffee maker as a birthday gift 2 years ago and use it almost daily. I'm the only coffee drinker in the house and hate to waste a full pot of coffee if all I want is one or two cups. Making coffee with a Melitta one-cup filter is just too much work compared to the simplicity of the Senseo coffee maker.
The Senseo coffee maker has a reservoir that is easy to fill, and the pods are very convenient to just drop into the pod holder. Two tips I picked up from a single-serve review web site:
1: Pre-moisten the coffee pod so that the edges seal better to the holder, and
2: Preheat your milk so that the milk doesn't cool the coffee when it pours into your cup. I preheat my milk for 30 seconds in the microwave, easy to do while the water is warming up.
I like being able to make a quick double for my travel mug when I'm running late--much faster than driving to Dunkin' Donuts or Starbucks and not knowing how long the line will be.
I love to show off my machine for company. I can accommodate everyone, whether they want regular or decaf, mild or strong, etc.
My only wish is that there could be more varieties to choose from. Plus a little hot chocolate would be nice--especially with the foam on top that the machine makes with every cup. K-cups seem to own the market on variety.
Yes, my machine was one of the ones that was recalled. While I had no problem with the old machine, Philips made it very simple by shipping the new machine by FedEx and requesting that the old one be shipped back at their expense in the same packaging. And I was surprised with a pretty white one which replaced the old black one. The white one goes better in my kitchen, a silly thing to obsess about, but I like it.
All in all, the Senseo is quick, easy, fun, and convenient. It's also a lot cheaper than buying on the road.
