Gaggia 102533 Espresso-Dose Semi-Automatic Espresso Machine, Warm Silver Review

Gaggia 102533 Espresso-Dose Semi-Automatic Espresso Machine, Warm Silver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is my 5th espresso machine i've owned. I must say the picture is a bit deceiving on build quality and how flimsy the machine really is.
I was very dissappointed when i received it from Amazon. Even mre so when I brewed my first cup. Coffee was very weak and with very little crema. I then noticed online that Gaggia offered an optional cremafilter for this machine which is almost impossible to find. However when i did find one the coffee actually tasted completelly different. It suddenly had the right texture, crema and stretto enough to put a grin on my face from the satisfaction.
but the as time went on 6 months or so. the crema filter became useless when it clogged up. I got it going several times after cleaning it but it involveed to much effort and time. So at this point i'm back to the original filter that came with the machine. Which means it's very difficult to get a good cup of coffee the way i like it. and yes i've try many different blends, grinds, beans. I'm less than a year into it and i'm ready to throw in the towel and move on to another machine.

Gaggia 90901 Platinum Swing Up Automatic Espresso Machine with Milk Island Review

Gaggia 90901 Platinum Swing Up Automatic Espresso Machine with Milk Island
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Well we tried the Gaggia Titanium and we did not like it at all (too loud, too big, odd settings).. This one, the gaggia Swing up is PERFECT! We can do Ristretto (tiny concentrated espresso). Noise level is very good. and the machine is too big at all! The only small minus is that the water tank coud have been a bit bigger but it would mean a bulkier machine (can't have it all). Access to the tank and the coffee dumps is very easy (much easier than the titanium model). I highly recommend it! oh I almost forgot the milk island attachment is SO good too! THe milk is froth to perfection, easy to do a creamy hot chocolate with it in less than a minute!

Its intuitive programming menu includes a digital LCD screen and touch ring controls that make it easy to select the aroma strength, temperature, menu language, clock and timer settings, and much more. The unit's built-in ceramic burr grinder ensures the freshest results, while its 8-4/5-ounce bean hopper offers adjustable ground-coffee dosage from 7 to 10-1/2 grams. Select mild to strong beverages while maintaining a perfect crema thanks to the Espresso Plus System. The appliance also comes equipped with 15-bar pump pressure and a stainless-steel-lined boiler with a rapid-steam boiler system, which means no waiting between frothing milk and brewing espresso. A Milk Island accessory unit also comes included. Simply attach it to the machine, fill it with milk, and it will automatically steam and froth milk in seconds.
Furthermore, the espresso machine can prepare two cups at the same time, while its stainless-steel, actively heated cup warmer helps maintain the integrity of freshly brewed espresso--pouring hot coffee into a cold cup can cool it down too quickly. Other highlights include a bypass doser for preground coffee, a 57-ounce removable water reservoir, an Aqua Prima water filter, an automatic height-adjustable drip tray, and a coffee-grounds container. The brewing unit removes for easy maintenance, and the machine's impact-resistant ABS plastic housing with a stainless-steel-finished front panel will look great on any kitchen counter. Dreamfarm Steel Wool Silver Grindenstein Review

Dreamfarm Steel Wool Silver Grindenstein
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
An excellent product. Sturdy design, easy to clean, and fits perfectly under my espresso maker's group head.
My only complaints are THE PRICE. Seriously, $30+ for a plastic cup?
Also the noise. Dreamfarm's website reads, "Thick and durable rubber sleeve protects the group handle, absorbs the striking force and makes it quiet to use."
I have to laugh at this. Knocking grounds out of my group head sounds like I'm hammering a grand piano with a 5 pound sledge. My neighbor even asked what all the banging was in the morning.
Sorry Dreamfarm. The Grindenstein's patented shape AMPLIFIES sound. Try it out yourselves sometime.
By far the best option on the market though. Go ahead and get one.

Bodum Chambord French Press Review

Bodum Chambord French Press
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Even if you find an espresso machine alluring, in the meantime, you can't beat coffee made with this elegant and perfectly functional press pot. It's simply the easiest and best way to extract maximum flavor from your finest beans (use a uniform grind slightly coarser than automatic drip). Some people even prefer it to espresso. It's durable, easy to clean, and doesn't require electricity.
One reviewer claimed they put the grounds and the water in the pot, immediately pushed the plunger and waited 10 minutes. However, they will get much better results if they wait 2-4 minutes (depending upon the coarseness of the grind) before plunging the coffee, and then drink it right away. I wouldn't even let the coffee rest, plunged, in the pot for ten minutes, as it will become over-extracted.
As for the reviewer that whined about truth in advertising, all I can say is "Duh". They themselves pointed out that the pot does make three espresso cups' worth of brew. And if they watch what they are doing next time, instead of just trying to pour 12 oz. of hot water into something, they can avoid future unpleasant experiences. I actually make coffee for two "cappuccinos" with this model. If you don't like your coffee as strong, you can simply add a little hot water to your cup after you have poured your coffee (like an Americano).

DeLonghi EAM3500 Magnifica Digital Super Automatic Espresso/Coffee Machine Review

DeLonghi EAM3500 Magnifica Digital Super Automatic Espresso/Coffee Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I like to enjoy a capuccino every morning, but I was a bit tired of the process of griding the beans, tamping, frothing, cleaning up, etc. Also in an effort to save time, I decided to research a super autmoatic machine. I wanted a quality machine that would froth milk for me, but I was not impressed with the Jura Capresso machines because they require extensive clean up and are, in my opinion, grossly overpriced.
My previous espresso machine was a Delonghi, and I was impressed by the quality of the machine and the espresso it produced. The EAM3500's automatic frothing mechanism was its main selling point. I was a bit hesitant about the price and longevity of the machine, but decided to go for it... I am happy that I did.
The espresso is wonderful, and the fothing mechanism is great. Clean-up is, no exaggeration, takes a few seconds before the milk jug may be returned to the fridge. Frothed milk could be a bit hotter, but it's definitely tolerable. The boiler is easy to clean (unlike Jura Capressos), and the bright LCD lets you know everything that the machine requires. I have already descaled once (before I switched to distilled water), and it was a snap.
Overall, I have owned the machine for 1.5 months, and it's the best. I never cease to be amazed every morning when I wake up -- the machine is already on and warmed up, and a delicious cappucino is a push of a button and thirty seconds away.
I highly recommend this machine. The only bad experience that I had was when I tried to obtain a second water hardness testing strip. This piece of paper that comes with the machine is easy to lose, and when I called for another, Delonghi wanted to charge me $15... for a piece of paper! I decided to use distilled water (better for the machine anyway) and set the water hardness to its lowest level.
--- UPDATE: 12/05/07 ---
I have to say that I am still extremely pleased with this machine. The seals for the milk jug have done bad, but Delonghi customer service has been wonderful; they have furnished new seals and a new top.
At the same time, I bought a second machine shortly after the first, and the second machine has been a nightmare. It has been "fixed" twice, and it can still be spotty for a few days (no froth or a cold espresso).
This machine must be cleaned and used with care to assure longevity.

Krups 92011-42 Artese Espresso, Cappuccino, and Latte Maker Review

Krups 92011-42 Artese Espresso, Cappuccino, and Latte Maker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I finally got fed up with running out for lattes every morning and the steam-driven machine that I had just didn't make a good shot of espresso, so when I saw the Krups Artese, a pump driven machine, I decided to risk [money] and see how it worked. In my opinion, it works like a charm. It makes a great single or double shot of espresso with a healthy head of crema. The water tank is handy for producing shot after shot and the steamer actually gets the milk really hot and produces a nice froth.
Advice to users -- 1) Skip the auto cappuccino accessory (which is supposed to draw milk from a container and steam/froth it automatically). It's clumsy. The steam nozzle works fine.
2) Turn the steam on before you put the nozzle in the milk to let excess water drip out of the nozzle. Turn it off before you take it out of the milk to avoid knocking down the froth
3) If the water isn't going through the grounds, try another brand of coffee or a different grind. I returned one machine thinking that the pump was broken, I couldn't get the water to push through the grounds. But it was the coffee, not the machine.
I use a store brand of coffee (President's Choice Decaf Espresso from Jewel) and it makes a smooth tasting shot without any bitterness at all. For [the money], this machine is an excellent value.

This is a great home espresso machine. I have used it 4-5 times per week, every week for the last 15 months since I received it and I have never had a problem with it. It produces nice, hot, frothed milk with minimum effort. It does require regular cleaning, as any espresso machine does. It is much more user friendly than the two steam espresso machines I previously owned.

I ordered this because I have always had pretty good luck with Proctor Silex coffee makers They generally last a long time. The only complaint that I have is that the coffee isn't really very hot. Talea Touch Espresso Maker Review

Talea Touch Espresso Maker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Talea Touch makes terrific coffee and has functions that are well thought out and easy to use. The only problem is that they can't make one that works.
I bought mine in Dec. 2009 from Seattle Coffee Gear. By March 2010, I had returned my third defective machine to Saeco. All three had different problems; the first leaked all over the counter when brewing (an internal hose defect), the second could not be programmed or hold a date and time; the third has a steam wand that leaked (poured) water during the brew cycle - enough to fill a shot glass for each coffee made. As of September, I have had to return it two additional times for repairs - a total of 5 times.
Saeco will fix or replace this again but what does that tell you about their QC? Saeco customer service has been helpful and courteous - once you reach them. Be prepared to wait > 45 minutes on their customer support line to reach a human being.
Saeco came highly recommended and it does makes great coffee and lattes when it works. If you like Audi's, this may be the coffee machine for you.
One last note, I have attempted to submit this review many times at Seattle Coffee gear and somehow it never appears on their website.

This was exactly what I needed and exactly as advertised. This tamper works well with the Mr. Coffee espresso maker I received as a gift. Now I am able to be much more uniform in tamping the grounds. Only one caveat: If you're going to buy an espresso tamper, measure your basket and be certain of what size you need. I did, I got the proper size and I'm very pleased.

Breville BCG800XL Smart Grinder Review

Breville BCG800XL Smart Grinder
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This was my husband's "BIG" gift for the holiday, and he hasn't liked a gift this much in a very long time! He likes to think he is a coffee buff, but never had a burr coffee grinder before, and after comparing model after model, name brand after name brand, I chose the Breville BCG800XL Smart Grinder for his gift.
We used to have a nice $50 Cuisinart grinder for years, and it still works well, but the noise it produced was horrifying (and I am NOT exaggerating, the NEIGHBORS even knew we were up when they heard the grinder, we live in a 2 story single family home), and the coffee grounds my husband left all around the machine when he removed the grounds bin was a daily annoyance. That coffee grinder has been cleaned & now happily residing at his office, where they can enjoy the mess and the noise, and a pretty good cup of coffee.
Now you wouldn't think that switching grinders would have an overall impact in the coffee quality, but did it ever! The coffee tastes so much richer, fuller and more aromatic than before! Even our 23 year old son said "Wow mom, this coffee is good, did you switch beans?" Was he surprised to find out all we did was switch grinders!
NOISE: Minimal, I can't even hear it when I'm sleeping. Our old grinder running used to be my wake up call upstairs, on the second floor, in the opposite corner of the house! The Breville's noise is semi~pleasant, like another reviewer stated, and not annoying at all, almost comforting. Happily, the noise just stays in the kitchen now, so only the smell of great coffee wakes me up on the opposite end of the house, YUM!
MESS: Zip, ziltch, nada. I am very pleased that the coffee grounds are housed safely & neatly in the attractive container. No issues with grind mess everywhere.
COST: OK.. can't find it anywhere below $199. I compared a lot of models out there, the two I ALMOST went with were the Kitchenaid $160~ish dollar model (Kitchenaid reviews weren't as good, and there was mention all over the internet about bulk and footprint of the machine), and the cheaper Breville around $95 or so, but the grindings all over the place by a couple of reviewers was enough to turn me off of that model. I opted for spending a more, and got a great machine my husband absolutely loves.
SIZE: Smaller than I thought it was going to be, packs a big BIG tower of conical burrs for massive grinding power. Just takes up the same small footprint of our old Cuisinart model, but a bit taller, so no issues there.
LOOKS: Stylish and elegant. It looks like a sophisticated appliance that can take a lot of wear & built to last. We display it proudly next to our old faithful "BUNN" coffee maker.
QUALITY: No flimsy hardware here, it all performs & appears like it will last for years. Backlit display seems very durable as well, and is very nice to aide pinpointing the perfect grind. The conical burrs are super sharp, super tough, and plentiful. My husband was impressed.
CLEANUP: Not difficult. They provide a nice brush that does a good job, esp since we enjoy a dark french roast with some beans being quite oily. Have to clean it more often with those types of beans anyway. No issues here.
GRIND CHOICES: OK.. WOW is all I can say. The description says it all, pick your grind, pick the strength, pick the amounts, whatever. Tons of ways to tweak the grind out to your liking.
HOPPER: AIRTIGHT! Our old Cuisinart wasn't airtight, but this one is, and holds a whole 1 pound bag of beans with ease. No need to constantly refill!
There are a lot of other attachments & things to do with this, but I hit the highlights for what we use it for. Our morning cup of YUM, and boy did this ever deliver.
CONS: Haven't found any yet, other than the $199 cost. Only time will tell if this machine is as durable as we think it can be. But since it only had a few reviews, and I always go to Amazon first, I needed to write this to add it to the happy family of 5 star ratings for this grinder.
Hopefully, this will be the last grinder we will ever need for quite a L O N G time. We are amazed at everything about this machine & the coffee it makes.
Thanks Amazon members for putting the reviews out there, this helped us make a great decision.

Saeco Coffee Maker Via Venezia Espresso Machine Review

I suspect the first reviewer here couldn't figure out how to use the product. It's not complicated, but it isn't as simple as turning it on and pressing a button. It happens to be make a great espresso, the frothing unit works well, and it's easy to clean. The product has a nice solid weight and a fine finish, it looks pretty solid and a cut above the plastic shell units that sell for less money.
I recommend it as a good bridge product -- not quite professional but better than the most readily available espresso makers.

I'm the occasional latte, cappuccino drink because I can't stomach paying $4-5 dollars for one at the coffee shop. But this little pot takes the cake. Follow the instructions though because they are written just right. They state that the first 3 batches are throw-outs, and even though I drank mine, that truly is the case. Batch #4 was the one and they've only gotten better each time. Follow instructions and watch the DVD provided and you'll be sippin' in no time. The only downside is that it's small. This is a one person deal, then you have to let the pot cool before starting it up again.
