Mypressi Twist Portable Espresso Maker Review

I originally got the Mypressi Twist in March. I was blown away by the great shots it was able to produce after only a few tries of getting used to it. Who would have thought such great espresso could have come from this little thing? I really loved the thing, and used it each morning for one double shot. However, as time went on the cartridge life continually declined. At first, I could get the 4 double shots from one cartridge, then 3, then just one. I could hear the gas leaking out slowly. Thought it might be bad cartridges, but it was not. I contacted MyPressi and they said there were problems with some of the early units having a 'slow leak.' On their website, they say they'll send you a "slow-leak patch kit," but in reality there is no kit, they just replace the unit. So I'm thinking, "Wow, what great customer service!" As they said they would, the replacement unit was sent. It was not a new unit, and it was obviously used. The end cap had extra metal soldered into the end, and I could instantly see some gas leaking out from around the bowl (cold on metal). And it made sounds not like my other. I knew it would not last. Again, the Mypressi worked for about a month of daily 1 double shot use. Then, just like the last unit, it is down to 1 double (or single, ONE TIME use only) per cartridge. I again contacted mypressi and they will not respond. I tried posting this info on the help and message board on their site, but all posts relating to the Mypressi not working well are IMMEDIATELY erased (vs 'how do I do this' posts). The Mypressi has a year warranty, but the thing only lasts two months. I am very disappointed as I did love it at first. I tend to think this company may go under...

Gaggia 90951 Platinum Vision Automatic Espresso Machine with Milk Island, Platinum Review

Gaggia 90951 Platinum Vision Automatic Espresso Machine with Milk Island, Platinum
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had this machine for a few days now and I absolutely love it. It by far trumps the quality of local shops and Starbucks (not that they make quality). The options on the machine allow you to create your own drink in your own flavor. The worst thing about this machine is how easy it is and how much you'll end up drinking. It's just too easy to press a button and boom, delicious espresso.
From off to espresso in no time flat!
If you want your drink fast, look no further than this machine. Going from completely off to drink ready takes about 1 minute. You can brew in no time so this machine was made for speed.
Touchscreen
I can't say it's greatly responsive. Obviously it's expensive and new so you want to be nice with it but that screen takes some hard pressure. Maybe they built it tough to last but you can't just tap it. You have to jab it sometimes. Not a complaint really. It seems like a strong screen.
Drinks
There are three drink options: espresso, coffee, and long coffee. You can control the amount of water, temperature, aroma, flavor, and strength. It's crazy. Once you get down you're favorite flavor though, it's just a simple button press. I like a caffe corretto once in a while so I like that you can throw in pre-ground decaf for a one time cup and then just go back to your regular settings.
Steaming
The wand is very articulated and easy to clean. The steam comes quick and stays consistently hot. You can steam milk fast enough to make yourself a cappuccino in under 2 minutes. I haven't tried the hot water option but I'm sure that works fine.
Drip Tray
It moves! The tray moves up and down via a touch sensitive button on the machine. It will move from the counter to nearly touching the spouts. The cover on the tray appears to be magnetic so it just attaches easily to the tray top. It slides on and off very easily but will not come off accidentally.
Warming tray
It warms decently fast. It doesn't get too hot or anything. Not much to say about it except it feels a bit small for how big the machine is.
Pure water
This machine has a water purifier included. I'm not sure if it is required to run the machine yet.
Maintenance
It has a lot of maintenance features including keeping track of your descaling schedule. It has you test your water hardness and program it in so it can remind you when you should descale. I haven't had to run any maintenance on it yet but it seems like everything is basically fully automated for it.
Auto Standby
I can't say if this goes into a real low power mode or what but it has a standby feature. After 1 or 4 hours it will standby. I think it just turns the heating off. Turning the warming tray off is optional.
Scheduling
It has a scheduling feature to set wake up and power off times for separate days.
Be aware!
The first few shots might suck. My first shot was 90% water with a dirty color to it. It took a few shots before the machine put out good shots. Not sure if this was a fluke or just my machine or just the machine calibrating but after about 3 failed shots they were all good.
I did not buy this product on Amazon but I use amazon a lot and wanted to put a review up. I did not purchase it with the milk island. The milk island was quite unnecessary. I do not recommend buying the machine with the milk island if you can get it without the island for a better price.

Bodum Chambord Aluminum Stovetop Espresso Maker Review

Bodum Chambord Aluminum Stovetop Espresso Maker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I love this little coffee maker. It makes 12 ounces of rich coffee.
I just set it on my gas burner, and wait for it to finish perking up through the coffee grinds and voila! A great hot cup of coffee!
The one thing to beware of is that the lower portion, where you put the water needs to be dried thoroughly when you are done. If not it will get really ugly and scaly and kind of rusted looking even though it's made of aluminum.
Don't use abrasives to clean the pot, just use hot water and maybe a bit of soap.
It is a classy looking little pot and stores nicely in a cabinet so you don't have to have this appliances on the counter all the time.

I have owned two previous versions of Krup expresso makers which I used till they died. I wanted something different this time and was not happy with the current selection of the krups expresso line up. I am in love with this machine. This expresso machine produces some of the best creme(froth)on an expresso (at home)I have ever seen. The froth wand is fabulous because not only is it easy to clean it produces great milk froth for cappuccino's. My only complaint is that the two attachments for the grinder do not have a button but you must snap in the pieces and if you are not careful you can easily damage the attachment. The grinder is great if you like to buy your beans whole and grind yourself. I highly recommend this machine for people who like great expresso and do it yourself cappuccinos.

Breville ESP6SXL Café Modena Espresso Machine Review

Breville ESP6SXL Café Modena Espresso Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My wife and I love this machine. We use it nearly every day for lattes and cappuccinos. While we first used it with espresso ground coffee, we later discovered pods. This machine comes with a pod holder that makes grinding, measuring, tamping obsolete and cleanup is a breeze. The box also includes two espresso cups and saucers, a frothing pitcher and a maintenance tool. The only necessary accessory that is not included is a thermometer for frothing the milk. I bought a cheap one for about 5 bucks at a nearby BB&Beyond that came with a holder with clip and it works very well. The machine always makes perfect espresso with excellent crema. Be sure to follow the directions for preheating the machine and the cups. If frothing milk for latte, be sure to put the brewed espresso in its cup on the top metal heating tray; it really makes a difference. This machine will also easily produce steamed milk for Irish coffees and other drinks. This is my first pump machine. All my previous machines were the steam kind; what a waste of money they were! Note that I did not purchase this machine through Amazon; however this is the exact unit and the price now offered is a bit less than I paid. However, we do get the pods through Amazon as a local merchant never seems to have stock in-date.

Kalorik EXP-20737 Aqua Line 1250-Watt 15-Bar-Pump Espresso Maker Review

Kalorik EXP-20737 Aqua Line 1250-Watt 15-Bar-Pump Espresso Maker
Average Reviews:

For the price, this is a great machine. Aesthetically, the units chrome and stainless looks adds greater appeal than the normal cheaper black plasic items that you find in this price range. I have used this unit numerous times to make both espresso and cappucino, and the coffee comes out great after you get familiar with its operation.
The only negative item that I can mention is regarding its manual. In order to find out how to properly operate this machine, I had to do a bit of research such as reading the manuals from other manufacturers. In addition, I have sent Kalorik some questions regarding the fiters mentioning the fact that the manual was lacking in any detail. Kaloriks response was to send me a PDF of the manual.
For the customer that mentioned that they where unable to get the machine to produce hot coffee, this again is due to the lack of information in the manual as I have had that as an initial experience and was first very disappointed by the machine. The item missing from the manual is the fact that you need to prime the machine prior to making the coffee, especially if this is the first time using it. The manual mentions that this is a cleaning process which is partially true when the machine is new, but you also need to do this to prime the boiler whenever you use the machine. Bascially, this just involved opening the steam valve for a short time to purge the water, and then let the pump put out some water. After this step, you will find that the coffee output is very hot.
Bottom line, a very good machine, but an incomplete manual.

In addition to brewing excellent-tasting espresso drinks, the appliance also makes a sleek-looking addition to an modern kitchen with its polished stainless-steel housing, chrome base, and decorative frosted glass control panel and top cover. It's definitely an appliance to leave out on display. Rancilio Silvia Espresso Machine - New 2009 Model V3 Review

Rancilio Silvia Espresso Machine - New 2009 Model V3
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a beautiful machine! I started learning about brewing espresso at home with a Gaggia Coffee. I've since stepped up to the Silvia and I wish I had bought it right away. The espresso I produce with it is far superior, never sour or bitter if I use the right amount and tamp it properly, and I can make microfoam. I also appreciate its heaviness, good looks, quiet operation and metal steam wand.
Many say - and it bears repeating - that you will only get the results you are looking for at home if you invest in a burr grinder of at least Rancilio Rocky or Gaggia MDF quality, grind right before brewing and use beans roasted within weeks, not months! I have had disappointing results with other grinders and all preground espresso including expensive Illy, etc.
Shop around and be sure to get free shipping, because this thing weighs a ton. I have seen good package deals where you can get the Silvia and Rocky together; with no tax and free shipping plus some free goodies such as a stainless steel tamper, you will be in business and might have some cash left over for the beans. Of course the instruction booklet is nearly worthless, but you can find some great videos on YouTube to show you what to do with all that stuff once you get it home.
If you have better things to spend your money on, like mortgage and groceries, or if you aren't too picky, look elsewhere; maybe try a stovetop moka pot. If you think you will be making espresso for years to come get this machine, a good grinder and a water filter, and some freshly roasted beans from Intelligentsia; then you will want a collection of little cups for serving your creations, and your friends might begin to think you are an insufferable coffee snob... and at that point, you will be. Trust me, your buddies most likely do not want to hear about your machine's brass portafilter and temperature stability.
This is NOT a cheap hobby. Maybe you should consider supporting your local coffee shop instead! As for me, I'm in too deep. Let me know if someone starts a twelve step program for espresso addicts. Enjoy!

I love this machine, have been using every single day for a month to make lattes at home. Turn it on and let it warm up for 10-15 minutes to get a hotter brew, and also for the cup warmer to be of any use. For my first espresso machine I am completely happy, especially for the price. A little practice with the steam wand and I am getting consistent texture, temperature, and taste with my daily latte. I would definitely recommend for first time users who are trying to make the switch from your daily $4 latte, it will pay for itself!

Be sure to clean both the frothing sleeve and steam tube thoroughly after each use to keep them in good working order. Nespresso Citiz Silver Chrome Espresso Maker & Milk Frother Review

Nespresso Citiz Silver Chrome Espresso Maker and Milk Frother
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For many years have quite happily enjoyed drip coffee, Starbucks and had even purchased a Keurig machine not too long ago. When I got the Keurig, people commented that it was really good coffee, and I agree.
However, after a trip to Europe, I found the coffee I was brewing at home, and purchasing at Starbucks now tasted watered down and bland. I LOVED the espresso and cappuccinos I had while in Europe and longed to have that here. I remembered having a lovely latte at a friend's house while visiting a bit ago, and that it was made from a Nespresso machine. After doing some online research I found there was a local store that sold Nespresso machines so I went in to check it out. The owner of the store is from Italy and was very excited about the quality of the espresso from the Nespresso machine. She happily showed me how the machine worked and made me an espresso to taste it for myself. I was impressed by the thick, beautiful crema, and even better, the espresso tasted great. I was hooked! I purchased the Citiz Silver Chrome Espresso Maker with Milk Frother and have been loving it every day since (about 3 weeks now). The taste of the espresso and lattes I now make at home bring me back to my happy memories of European mornings with friends and I have not stepped foot inside a major coffee seller since I brought this. This system makes getting that much needed morning latte very fast and easy.
You do have to order the pods directly from Nespresso, however I placed an order at 7am on a Tuesday, and I had my pods delivered on Wednesday afternoon. They said it would take 2 business days, and I assumed they meant 2 business days AFTER I placed my order, but apparently they counted the day I ordered as one of those 2 days. I was really impressed by the speed of delivery.
If you want good, European style coffee with little fuss and easy clean up - take the plunge and get one of these! The only caveat is that you might find yourself a complete addict...

Rattleware 12-Ounce Latte Art Milk Frothing Pitcher Review

Rattleware 12-Ounce Latte Art Milk Frothing Pitcher

This is one of the more competitively priced 12oz pitcher on Amazon. Its solid construction will ensure years of heavy usage. The previous reviewer commented on its handle but my medium sized hands fit the handle adequately without the need to come into contact with the pitcher. Otherwise, don't fill it to the rim with hot milk.
I pour latte art on my drinks and this pitcher has a nice sharp spout which allows the flow of milk to be easily controlled at the spout.
You can easily steam enough milk in this pitcher for 2 typical 5oz cappuccinos without spilling the milk in the steaming process. Recommended!

I use this "cup" every morning to make my coffee and I must say that with this, if you buy the right coffee, you are going to experience the best coffee of your life, for this takes the best part of the coffee and makes it to perfection.
The only thing I regret is that it says you can make 3 cups but I didn't think of the fact that I drink coffee in a mug... Its enough for me but if somebody else wants coffee (like my mom, for exemple) I have to make it again. So I should have bought a bigger one.
I'll might buy a bigger one soon.

Imusa Espresso Coffeemaker, 3 cup Review

Having owned one of these before - I kept the flame on the gas stove low, and used Vanilla Macadamia Nut coarse coffee grind as my first attempt. It was delicious! I also add a lot of cream and Zsweet (sugar replacement) and it was very delicious. I had bought the instant packets of coffee earlier for days when I have to rush to work, but after making it today - I don't think I will be using those packets anymore. I made this today before work and it took just a few mintues - maybe 2 or 3minutes for the water (I used my filtered water) to percolate to the top (flame at very low) and coffee made perfect! Wow! I paid $20.00 for this at K-mart - the IMUSA brand and I should have checked with Amazon first as they are selling it for half the price, but I am still so glad I bought it at even double the price.
Love this coffee. I pour my coffee in the irish coffee cups you can get at Bed Bath and Beyond - small glass cups and just top with a sprinkle of cinnamon. Yum!
You have to watch the coffee closely - it suddenly sort of just "Perced" up and I quickly turned it off and it was ready. I also was careful to let the plastic handle avoid the flames, and it was not even hot to touch when the coffee quickly percolated.
Very rich bodied coffee, but I don't like to drink it strong like espresso - I add tons of cream to it.
Remember - the number of cups are in "espresso" cup size. Imagine Kona coffee or Coconut coffee. Wow.

I got a sample of this product in my new Hamilton Beach Brew Station. The first time I used it, I could not believe how great it is.
Things I like:
Dissolve in 4 cups of water, pour in coffeemaker. Dissolves easily.
Run through the coffeemaker, then wipe and rinse parts. I said "wipe", not "scrub"! First one I ever used that I could do that. I was very impressed.
Two subsequent run throughs with clear water. The cleaner is tinted with a blue color, so that you can see if you have got it all rinsed out.
Then you are done. That's it. No more muss, fuss, or mess.
It does say to use it once a week. I find once a month is plenty for us, but that would depend on coffeemaker usage. Fabulous product.

DeLonghi EN680.M Nespresso Lattissima Single-Serve Espresso Maker, Metal
Average Reviews:

I loved this machine from the first time I saw and tried it. However, I started having problems on day 2 - the milk wouldn't froth and it came out in spurts with a lot of water, not even filling 1/8 of the glass with milk. I took it back to Williams Sonoma and they cheerfully replaced it. It happened again to this new machine and, once again, I took it back for a replacement. (I had been in touch with Nespresso at all the junctures along the way and they replaced the milk jug and top twice.) When it happened on the third machine, I called the local Williams-Sonoma and asked if there was someone who could check out my machine. I am in the Danbury, CT area and Bill, at the local Williams-Sonoma, told me to leave it with him while I shopped and he would check it out. When I returned he told me it was frothing perfectly and then showed me how he set it up. It seems that I had not been pushing the jug connection tight enough. It has to click in. The lights had always been on and so I believed that the jug was connected correctly, but I was wrong. Not until I saw it being done and felt the connection, did I understand what I was doing wrong. Without being tightly connected it doesn't work correctly. Now I push until I hear a click and/or push it in a second time holding the back of the machine as I push, and have been making perfect lattes. I recommend this machine highly but think the documentation should be rewritten with this little bit of information in bold letters. I have seen many reviews of this machine from people who have had the same problem and hope that they found the solution as this machine is wonderful.
