Gaggia 90800 Platinum Vogue Automatic Espresso Machine, Silver Review

Gaggia 90800 Platinum Vogue Automatic Espresso Machine, Silver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This machine is aesthetically pleasing and pulls great espresso shots. With good quality beans I am able to make as good a latte as I can find in places like Peets with pleasing frothing and nice crema. But the machine is falling apart! After just 4 months the ball joint of the frothing wand is broken and to have it repaired I was told by the US distributor that I must send it back to NY (at my expense) and be without it for 3 weeks.
Bottom line the best machine imaginable if you are ok replacing it reliability and good customer service is not a concern to you. Maurigo

Taylor Classic Cappuccino Frothing Dial Thermometer Review

Taylor Classic Cappuccino Frothing Dial Thermometer
Average Reviews:

Not a bad thermometer for making the perfect froth for your cappucino. Pluses: Temp range for perfect milk temperature highlighted (140-160 deg. F), reasonably priced. Minuses: It should include a plastic protector tube (to prevent inadvertant stabbings...), and it would be nice if the temp gauge went down to 80 degrees. To get a good froth, try dancing the steam wand at the top of the milk until the temp reaches 100 deg.F. As the foam rises, follow it up. At 100 deg.F, push the wand down into the milk until the temp reaches 140-160 deg.F. Have fun!

This is a good knock box if there is only one person in the house drinking espresso. Perfect for someone like myself who only has a double shot every morning. It holds about 8 double shot "pucks" comfortably. The color in this picture is accurate. The red definately stands out on the counter!

Medelco 4-Cup Permanent Basket Coffee Filter Review

Medelco 4-Cup Permanent Basket Coffee Filter

This filter wss purchased for use in a Mr Coffee DR4.
It replaces a permanent filter from Mr Coffee that had a plastic bottom with the mesh only on the sides.
The Medelco filter has mesh on the bottom as well as the sides, thus the water runs through the filter too fast resulting in weak coffee.
The only suggestion from Medelco's help line was to use more coffee!

This is one of my favorite Tassimo drinks. I only wish they sold the Fat Free Creamers separately - they would be great to use with the Decaf Espresso t-discs to make a Decaf Skinny Cappuccino.
Great taste! For those that don't like running a cleaning cycle after the milk disc, I tend to run the milk disc first then add the coffee disc second.

Briel ES62AF L'Expresso Automatic Cadiz Espresso Machine Review

Briel ES62AF L'Expresso Automatic Cadiz Espresso Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After searching long and hard (and reading countless reviews) I decided upon this machine because of 1)price and 2)looks. This machine replaced an old Krups steam driven machine. I've now had it about a month. Here are my thoughts: 1)There is a learning curve - I had to adjust my burr grinder to get the correct setting, or adjust how hard I tamped, or else I found the liquid coming out around the edge of the filter holder. So,I suggest first buying good quality preground espresso, and get used to tamping it properly (ie. very lightly!). Then, after mastering the tamp, adjust your grinder so you get a grind that approaches what you bought (I used Illy). I found a 5.5 on my Braun grinder works best. Since then I've had no problem and perfect espressos. (the machine seems to work better with time). 2) It drips - no matter what they say it drips. If it didn't drip they wouldn't have a drip pan. It takes a rinse and its clean - no big deal. I have a sponge I use just for the machine to wipe up drips, etc. (also use a toothbrush periodically to clean the brew head). I don't want to turn anyone off; making espresso is messy and will always be unless you pop for the $1000 machines that do everything. 3)I don't have much use for the automatic serving system (the middle dial). Supposedly you can use it to control the amount of water, but I find it varies considerably between shots. I set it to the highest setting and then just turn the brew button on until my shot glass is full and then hit it again to turn it off. Takes around 25 seconds. In all, those are the problems I found - and they aren't biggies. For the price, I'm willing to deal with them as I don't think any of the other machines at a similar price would offer much difference. I'd definitely buy it again.

Hamilton Beach 80374 Custom Grind Hands-Free Coffee Grinder, Black Review

Hamilton Beach 80374 Custom Grind Hands-Free Coffee Grinder, Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I couldn't recommend this grinder more highly. It is solidly constructed, and the manufacturer took the time to add all the little details that are missing on cheaper models, like no-slip feet and a retractable cord (which is a little short, perhaps the one negative to this otherwise perfect product). The stainless steel grinder bowl is well designed - it has gradiated markings to let you know how many beans to put in for the number of cups of coffee you intend to brew, and it perfectly grinds the beans to your desired coarsness. In addition, it is removable AND dishwasher safe, making for easy cleaning.
The machine's slim, tall profile is ideal for easy on-counter or cabinet storage, and the black / stainless steel finish is attractive and a good match to most major coffee maker and espresso machine brands. The grinder provides multiple different settings for different coarsness and the amount of beans you are grinding, and since the grinding time is pre-set you can just push the button and move on to doing something else while the coffee grinds. It may take the "art" out of coffee grinding, but it will give you a great cup of coffee every time.
A final note - you may feel constrained by the pre-set options, but they still provide quite a bit of flexibility. If you like your coffee weaker, just put in a few less beans than your desired cup mark would call for (or vice versa if you like your coffee stronger). Having the specific settings means that when your experimenation finally comes out the way you want it to, you'll be able to remember next time ("oh, I used the 4-cup measure of beans to 8 cups of water, and I ground it on the medium-coarse setting") rather than having to try to guess at what you did to get that "perfect cup."
I can't imagine anything else that I would want in a grinder - the only semi-common option that it is missing is extra storage for beans or ground coffee; these features are not missed, however, as I always grind my beans fresh and I store them in a cool, dry airtight container. Storing your beans or grounds in the grinder is a sure way to ruin their taste.
Is this the perfect grinder? I'd say so. I give it a perfect 5/5.

Twinings English Breakfast Tea, 16-Count T-Discs for Tassimo Coffeemakers (Pack of 2)
Average Reviews:

The item is exactly as described. Keep in mind you are ordering 2 16-count packages though (for a total of 32 T-Discs). They have a very long shelf-life (over 1 year) unlike many of the other milk-based T-Discs (such as the latte and cappuccino discs, as well as the hot chocolate), so as something nice to have on hand for a chilly morning or rainy afternoon, this is a great option. I only wish Tassimo would start putting out more decaf options...

Capresso 4440.90 3-pack Charcoal Water Filters Review

Capresso 4440.90 3-pack Charcoal Water Filters
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Beginning with the Coffee Team Plus, Capresso introduced the concept of a water filter in the water tank of their automatic coffee makers. If you use tap water, the filter is a wonderful idea. It removes impurities and chlorine before the water is heated. Clean water and a clean coffee maker = great coffee.
The manufacturer's recommendation is to change filters every 6 weeks or 60 pots of coffee. I usually change them every two months, or so. I imagine the effectiveness of the filter may depend on the quality of the water you use. I haven't had a problem yet.
Usage tip: Each filter is individually wrapped in plastic to keep it fresh until opened. When you open a filter, first soak it in cold water for about 15 minutes. Then rinse it under running water for another minute or two until the water dripping from the filter is clear. If you still see black particles dripping from the filter, run a pot of water through the coffee maker, with the new filter inserted, without coffee beans and discard the water afterward, or use the water for plants (when it is cooled, of course.)

KitchenAid Pro Line Series Burr Coffee Mill, Onyx Black Review

KitchenAid Pro Line Series Burr Coffee Mill, Onyx Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
ORIGINAL REVIEW WRITTEN IN 1-2009: The Kitchen Aid Pro Line burr grinder has been sitting next to my drip coffee maker for more than a week and it effortlessly became part of my morning routine after its first use! It is solid, quiet, quick and grinds beans evenly with no static mess.
BACK STORY: I have owned burr and conical burr coffee grinders for more than 20 years. Most recently, I owned the Bodum conical burr grinder and it died after maybe 5 years of daily use. I did quite a bit of research and decided on the Breville conical burr grinder Breville BCG450XL Conical Burr Grinder as a replacement. The reviews on Amazon rate the Breville very highly for its price class but I was extremely disappointed when I received it. I found it was extremely lightweight and flimsy in construction. Other than the burrs, it's made of plastic. Worst of all I couldn't get the burrs (which had to be removed for cleaning along with the plastic bean hopper and grind cup before first use) to fit back in properly. I tried and tried. There was no diagram or detailed instructions. No information on the Breville web site and a customer service telephone number that was never answered. Someone suggested just letting the burrs sit "unsecured" under the bean hopper. When attempted, the unit spewed ground coffee all over the kitchen creating a mighty mess and extreme cursing. I wasted four days trying to get Breville customer service! With great aggravation, I returned the Breville to Amazon. Back to square one.
After more research, I decided that I needed to spend more money to get the kind of coffee grinder I could live with. I wanted quality construction, ease of use, good even grind from coarse to fine, reliable customer service from a company that was not going to disappear in a few years, and finally, no plastic parts that contributed to the static electricity that caused the ground bean residue to fly around and settle on to everything nearby.
I chose the Kitchen Aid. The Kitchen Aid is ugly-handsome in a 1930's futuristic, form-follows-function way. Like the classic Kitchen Aid mixer, this grinder delivers what it promises. "Just the facts, m'aam". It is made of solid, heavy metal and the bean carafe and grind carafe are both made of glass. No static! No mess! Heaven! The instruction book is extremely well written and specific to a fault. The unit is surprisingly quiet....no frightened cat! No closing the kitchen door so not to wake the household! The beans are evenly ground. There are over 15 grind settings to choose from. No timer, but really, why have one? I've never used a timer that delivered the quantity necessary. I don't even miss it.
Kitchen Aid offers an excellent, two year guarantee. The glass parts are removable and dish-washable. And, probably most important, should disaster strike, the glass parts as well as the burrs are replaceable! (NOTE 5-10-10: Disaster struck! The ground bean hopper broke! I called the KitchenAid Customer Service 800# printed in the instruction book and ordered a new glass hopper for $12.95 which included S/H. It arrived in several days. While on the phone, I asked the rep why I couldn't find the Coffee Grinder or spare parts for the grinder on the KitchenAid web site. She told me that KitchenAid was coming out with new small kitchen appliances very soon. They are selling out of and discontinuing manufacturing this particular model although spare parts would be available for several years.)
So far, I am delighted!
UPDATE 2-10: Excellent grinder. No complaints! A few months ago I noticed that the normally even grind was getting a bit rough and that beans were sometimes getting stuck in the grind mechanism. I got out the extremely well illustrated instruction book, opened up to the chapter on "Care and Cleaning" and followed the easily duplicated instructions. I loosened two screws, opened the faceplate assembly, removed the burr shaft and cleaned everything out with the supplied burr cleaning brush. I treated the bean hopper and grind container to a wash in the dishwasher. Re-assembly was a snap (unlike earlier Breville re-assembly fiasco) and my problems were resolved. A note to reviewers who have static problems: washing the grind hopper with dish washing liquid solves the problem. Also, I found that cleaning out the burrs and burr shaft helps to reduce the incidence of grinds falling onto the bin platform when the grind hopper bin is removed. Thus eliminating the need to BOP.
I've owned my trusty Kitchen Aid mixer for well over twenty years. Maybe, just maybe this coffee grinder will be around for a long time too!
Hopefully, KitchenAid will continue to offer spare parts!

Farberware Percolators Review

Farberware Percolators
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've happilly enjoyed Farberware's larger 20-cup electric percolator that is still brewing some wonderful coffee after 10 years. All I had to replace was the electric cord, which petered out after 3 years.
I've had this model for a few months and think that it will also last a long, long time (don't know about the cord, though). This machine looks terrifically retro, is easy to clean and keeps the coffee consistenly hot for hours. After tasting coffee here, you won't go back to your old drip machine.
My advice to you is:
1. Don't overfill the basket with grinds, because it's very easy to make a STRONG cup of coffee with this. We like strong coffee, so this is a good thing.
2. Clean it w/soap & water as soon as you are finished with it to protect the pot. I also clean it out with Dip-It every 6 weeks or so to remove the coffee stains from the inside and make it shiny and new-looking.
3. At most supermarkts you can buy little paper disc filters that sit in the bottom of the jar and keep the smaller grinds from falling into the water. It also filters out alleged carcinogens that are not removed by traditional percolators or coffee presses.
I would actually give this 4.5 stars, because sadly, these newer models are now made in China rather than the Farberware factory in the Bronx.

Saeco S-TRP-ST Talea Ring Plus Super Automatic Espresso Machine Review

Saeco S-TRP-ST Talea Ring Plus Super Automatic Espresso Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I owned a Jura Impressa S90 for 6 years at a daily rate of 8 espressos . No problems , I sold it to upgrade it for a professional like machine.. Bad decision, The Talea Ring Plus has a beautiful design and is relatively small for a full automatic, but...
After 4 months it was leaking (faulty 0 rings ), it wastes more water that it goes into the coffee, it is very high maintenance to clean (new filter every 2 weeks, cleaning tablet every 3 weeks, descaling twice in 3 months), but most important if you have a problem forget about Saeco customer service:rude, incompetent and they don't return emails or calls, so you better have a good relationship with your retailer to enlist their help. After the repair of my NEW machine, Saeco lost my original box and protective pads, they scratched the led display and plate and the serial number sticker was missiing...
After 8 single coffees you must empty the grounds and the drip tray! the container is flooded with water.
What about the coffee? Just OK , not any better that one could get with a machine one third of the price.
If you are thinking superautomatic forget Saeco( at least this model)

this is a suitable replacement for my Krups machine. The glass feels flimsy so it may break before I get much use from it(like the krups version did) The fit under the spout is a little tight but not overly so. Overall it works for my purposes.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Capresso 3011.01 4-Cup Glass Replacement Carafe with Lid for Mini Espresso Machine

This 4-cup lidded glass carafe functions as a replacement carafe for the Capresso 302.01 "mini-s" espresso/cappuccino machine, in addition to other brands of mini steam espresso machines. The glass carafe provides an easy-grip handle, a drip-free pour spout, and markings that help in the preparation of brewing and frothing. The upper rim of the metal band marks the maximum capacity of the "mini-s" coffeemaker's boiler (approximately 11 ounces). The carafe's 4-cup marking notes the maximum amount of espresso to brew (approximately 8 ounces) without the coffee tasting burnt. Its 2-cup marking (approximately 4 ounces) serves as a guideline for a double shot of espresso. Once the coffee has reached the steam mark, there's enough pressure in the boiler for steaming and frothing. Clean the glass carafe and its lid in a solution of hot water and mild soap. For convenience, the glass carafe can be put in the dishwasher's upper level, away from any heating element (remove lid before placing in dishwasher). The replacement carafe measures approximately 7-1/5 by 3-4/5 by 4-1/5 inches.

Graniteware 3 Quart Coffee Boiler Review

Graniteware 3 Quart Coffee Boiler
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
With this granite wear coffee pot you can make cowboy coffee on the campfire or the fire-pit at home. This pot is not really for the stove. This basic boiler coffee pot gets the job done. This pot has the lid attached so it won't fall out. This one is black in color.
Do not confuse a boiler pot with a percolator pot. Boiled coffee is a learned procedure and takes practice. If you cannot face having a bit of grounds in your coffee, or a dented pot with black soot marks on it, this may not be for you.
CARE OF POT: If you want it to stay nice and clean looking, wet the outside with a bit of soap before you put it on the fire, and let it dry to an invisible shield. Soot wipes right off when you wash it. Unless this stays outside all the time, this is a really smart idea to save the nice color on your pot. There is no basket, filter, tube, or other clutter to worry about, I want as little fussiness as possible for campfire coffee.
RECIPE FOR BOILED COFFEE: Here is a recipe from the book I am writing: Use 3/4 cup of coffee grounds per quart of coffee, or one coffee measure scoop per coffee cup of water. Heat the amount of water you intend to use in your pan over a hot fire, until boiling. Then add the coffee grounds, and an eggshell. Yes I said an eggshell. Get the water back to boiling as it slows for a couple of minutes after dropping in the coffee. Pull the pot off the fire and set it aside for a few minutes. Pour in a 1/2 cup of cold water. Along with the eggshells, this helps the grounds sink to the bottom of your pot. Some people do not like the cold water trick as they want the coffee as hot as possible. If that is you, just set it aside about 5 minutes to settle. Now the next secret to this is.... Don't pour it out! Instead use a scooper or a ladle to serve your coffee so that you do not stir up the grounds again. If you do not have a ladle, pour really really slow. That is why the lid on a boiler is supposed to be bigger than a lid on a percolator.
TIP: Remember not to drink the cup to the bottom, throw out the last bit that has grounds, then get a fresh cup. Now when I was a kid there were tricks that my uncles used when hunting involving socks as bag for grounds, but don't even ask me to go there. This type of pot is also convenient for leaving on the fire during the day to keep hot water going for washing dishes, bathing, cooking, or to make some hot chocolate or tea in the cup. If you have to deal with a hot pot, use thick leather gloves, you can use pliers but take care not to crack the hot paint.
Boilers tend to come in bigger sizes that campfire coffee percolators, so if you need a BIG pot, you can get a boiler all the way up to 36 cups. I hope all this helps you, Happy Trails!

This would be perfect if it weren't for the sucralose in it. Sadly, the plastic-y sucralose aftertaste practically ruins this drink for me. The chai spices are a nice, not overpowering blend and the creamer foams up and tastes just lovely.
I wish they would leave the artificial sweetener out of the few t-discs that are actually available in the USA (or expand their offerings to include those without as well as with), unfortunately its in the Milka T-Discs, too.

Medelco 4 Cup Universal Stainless Steel Replacement Carafe Review

Medelco 4 Cup Universal Stainless Steel Replacement Carafe
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is stainless steel so needless to say, it's durable. It doesn't mean it is indestructable but you can stop worry about breaking it if you drop it on the floor or when you wash it with hard detergents. It comes with 2 height adjusters (for the Mr. Coffee spring-load flow stopper). My apology for not getting all the terminologies right. I bought this to replace my 4-cup carafe and the small adjuster works fine.
I have a nit-pick with the design. The spout is too shallow, consequently, the carafe doesn't pour right. What happens is that when you pour the coffee, the shallow spout doesn't give a fast enough flow so the coffee will get to the level of the lid. Subsequently, it will pour coffee on the side of the carafe.
Solutions: 1) pour slowly. I hold the lid up and pour the coffee a bit more slowly. 2) If you're a handy person, get a little hammer and a small round rod, tap the spout to widen it and deepen it a bit.
