(More customer reviews)I did not buy my tamper from this seller. See the images section to see my tamper. I believe it is the same one, as I have scoured the internet and this was the only 52mm tamper available anywhere.
This review NEEDS to be written. I have a Breville die-cast espresso machine. The basket size is a variable and odd shape. Online some people claim it is 49mm. This is false. I have not measured with a caliper myself, but I believe the variability is b/w 51-52.5mm so all the excellent 53mm tampers are straight out for us. Seriously! I have been ALL over online and was considering paying $75+ to have a tamper custom milled before finding this tamper! I only found it because the great people at Seattle Coffee Gear recommend it for the machine.
There is ONE caveat with this tamper, and that is that from the base upwards there is a slight taper. If your basket is not mostly full to support this tamper as you put weight on it, the tamper will be stopped by the edge of your basket 8-9mm down. So you WILL have to make LARGE shots.
The tamper has a nice heft to it, but it's not overly weighty either. The bottom is flat with rounded edges.
Since using this tamper my shots have gone from dark brown with slight bitterness to black-as-night with subtle sweetness. If you have a Breville die-cast espresso machine, this is the tamper for you!
