I was initially happy with this tamper, but after a little bit over 3 months of use it broke apart as I was tampering coffee. An e-mail exchange with the retailer revealed that this is a know issue with this model of the tamper -- the tamper breaks if dropped. I have to agree that I probably dropped the tamper a couple of times during the time I used it because it rolls away so easily...
My expectation for any kitchen gadget/tool is that it should be sturdy and not breaking apart even if it felt from the counter. There are plenty of kitchen tools made of plastic that don't break so easily.
If you are not prepared to baby your espresso tamper, then do yourself a favor and get a more robust product.
